I would love to be able to agree with you because I think a positive attitude is a GOOD thing.

But that’s the very reason I just can’t allow bleak, unsupported statements about RA and its prognosis to go unchallenged, especially when they’re announced as fact to warn a newbie.

To me, it IS stress to see speculation presented as fact... and the desire to shrug and let it pass may be well-meaning but I see it as dangerous. There ARE ways to sort through the “masses of advice”-- and this group is one of them. I love and support the members of this group, but will not agree to just tolerate, love and support whatever they say— when it’s wrong.

Subject: Life expectancy and RA

My two cents on the brewing debate -

Debates are bad for our psyche!

Repeat after me: We love, encourage and support each other because we share the same ailment!

Death is inevitable whether we have RA or not. Who knows what tomorrow brings. Why argue. None of us know for sure how to sort through the masses of advice on the internet but I think one common thread out there is that stress is not good for those with autoimmune diseases. So let's all think happy thoughts.

Well behaved dancing pot bellied pigs is certainly a better thing to make us smile!

I agree.

A positive attitude is a good thing and we all must "work" at it.

But at the same time I think we must face the realities of this disease. There are many recent well written articles on the web by doctors who specialize in RA.

And, our own doctors can be a tremendous resource....especially if they specialize in RA.

One must take a realistic and "balanced" approach.

I apologize if my former posts seem to reflect too much "doom and gloom."

But I do think focussing on some of the potential complications forces patients of RA to be more proactive in their care.

For me, that meant tons of exercise .....it meant watching my diet.....it meant lots of studying and changing my lifestyle.

I don't think we can always depend upon our doctors and the new meds to save us from some of the complications that I wrote about. We must fight, and we must fight hard.

Part of that is learning about those who are less fortunate than we are.

I am also eager to learn what medications work for people.

We must remain proactive and share information.

Again, I apologize if I sounded too negative. The topic of whether to breast feed or not seemed frivolous, as I thought of all the people I have talked to who cannot even walk because of RA.

I think we must do all we can to understand the disease...the good, the bad, the ugly.

But every case is different.

But from my research this is a very serious disease, and the complications (there are many) can shorten one's life......it doesn't mean that everyones life will be shortened....but people should be aware of it.

No there wouldn't, because the government would done away with it

because it was associated with GOD, like the Pledge of allegance, 10

Commandments in courthouses, prayers in schools, etc. What would be

left after that happens to the God provided healthcare..I think they

would call it Medicare.....

rhow176,

Good thought about what would happened to " God provided unniversal

health care " . It's sad, but you are probably correct.
