Hello,

Thanks for sharing this info.I also take Sprycel.I started it in Aug and have

gained 35 pounds since.I gained about 25 the first two months and at a slower

rate the remainder.I am frustrated as I have had two weight loss surgerys to

lose my excess weight.I am now gaining it all back but I am alive.I had wls

because the weight was killing me and now I face it again. The weight will

probably kill me long before leukemia and it is depressing.Last week I gave up

Meats and gained 4.5 pounds.I have a small stomach due to wls.My Dr thinks the

Sprycel is slowing my metabolism even more.(It's already screwed up from years

of yo yo dieting, diabetis, insulin resistance). Not sure what else to do.I am

exercising now(since Dec and still gaining weight pretty much weekly.

Thanks

important of all -- a LITTLE salad dressing. Beware of bottled dressings. If

[ ] Successful Diet on Sprycel!

Hello Fellow Frustrated Dieters,

I have been very vocal about how frustrating it is not to be able to lose weight

while taking Sprycel after the drug first caused a precipitous weight gain.

Well, it's a little slow but I've finally found some success and want to pass it

along to you.

I have lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks on this diet. It may not be exactly right for

you but I do want to pass it along in some detail in case it works for someone

else.

First of all, I read every lable for caloric count before buying anything. You

may be very surprised at how many hidden calories there are.

My basic diet is about a cup of Kefir (liquid yogurt) for breakfast. Or a small

carton of Yoplait fat-free yogurt. Either way, it's under 200 calories.

This diet depends a great deal on having light soups available. I buy both

's and Progresso. Many are 200 calories or less per can. I don't know

what is available in other parts of the world but this is what I've found in the

U.S. that works for me. I eat a whole can (one bowl full) of soup for lunch or

dinner.

The other meal (either lunch or dinner) is a generous salad. I vary my

ingredients but always include some protein -- chicken or turkey and no red

meat. Currently, because of what's available at the market, I am using grilled

various forms of chicken breast (sausage, grilled, marinated and baked) with

virtually no fat. I also use turkey bacon to add a little crunch and salty

flavor. Then I use various kinds of lettuces and greens, fruit or tomato

(papaya is in here now), green or red bell pepper; shredded carrots and, most

important of all -- a LITTLE salad dressing. Beware of bottled dressings. If

you read how many calroies are in each 2 TBSP you'll be astonished. I usually

use just a flavored vinegar or lemon juice. If I use a bottled dressing I buy

the light kind and only use 2-3 Tbsp.

Snacks: Fat-free microwave popcorn or rice crisps.

Sweets: Special K breakfast foods and FiberOne breakfast foods both make a

90-calorie chocolate drizzled cereal bar that is really good! Also, Trader

Joe's has a 100-calorie chocolate bar that's small buy very satisfying.

I eat one of these every other day or so to satisfy cravings.

Please notice that's there's no cheese, no red meat, virtually no fat on this

diet but it's healthy and I find it very good. It adds up to 1,000 or less

calories a day.

Good luck!

Dear Sharon,

I hope my info helps you. I, too gained 30 pounds on Sprycel and have been

unable to take any of it off. I don't understand why you're still gaining. I

have had my thyroid checked and even took meds for awhile to make sure my

metabolism was normal. It was. However, I have heard that these meds (Sprycel

and Gleevec, too) affect our hormones and that may be the reason we gain all the

weight and can't take it off. I had the same problem with Gleevec. In fact I

gained even more weight on Gleevec and lost it again when I lost response to

that drug. Then I regained 30 pounds when I started taking Sprycel.

I can't imagine how depressed you must be since you're gaining weight regularly.

This diet which is fairly extreme is the first time I've been able to take off

any weight at all. And it took 5 weeks to lose just 5 pounds. I didn't do any

exercises though I know I should.

If I wasn't on Sprycel I'd be losing weight a lot faster on this diet.

The soups are really good and there's such a variety of flavors. Also, soup

with meat and vegetables in them make you feel full so you don't feel like

eating again until the next meal. I'm getting tired of salads but I figure I

can steam some other vegetables and have those plus some protein with a little

no-fat dressing for flavor.

Let me know how you're doing. You can write to me directly at seloew12@....

Best wishes,

Virginia

You are so welcome, Sharon. I hope the info is helpful to you, too. I really

wish someone would figure out why these meds cause weight gain/loss in some of

us so we could do something about it before it becomes so overwhelming.

Hi again,

Because it's wintertime here in Virginia I also buy froazen fruit and bottled

fruit. I like frozen cherries and bottled mandarin orange sections. If you

use bottled or canned fruit be sure to get the ones in their own juice or light

syrup.

[ ] Successful Diet on Sprycel!

Hello Fellow Frustrated Dieters,

I have been very vocal about how frustrating it is not to be able to lose

weight while taking Sprycel after the drug first caused a precipitous weight

gain. Well, it's a little slow but I've finally found some success and want to

pass it along to you.

Or a

small carton of Yoplait fat-free yogurt.

The other meal (either lunch or dinner) is a generous salad. I vary my

ingredients but always include some protein -- chicken or turkey and no red

meat. Currently, because of what's available at the market, I am using grilled

various forms of chicken breast (sausage, grilled, marinated and baked) with

Snacks: Fat-free microwave popcorn or rice crisps.

Sweets: Special K breakfast foods and FiberOne breakfast foods both make a

90-calorie chocolate drizzled cereal bar that is really good! Also, Trader Joe's

has a 100-calorie chocolate bar that's small buy very satisfying.

I eat one of these every other day or so to satisfy cravings.

Please notice that's there's no cheese, no red meat, virtually no fat on this

diet but it's healthy and I find it very good. It adds up to 1,000 or less

calories a day.

Good luck!
