Hello Fellow Frustrated Dieters, I have been very vocal about how frustrating it is not to be able to lose weight while taking Sprycel after the drug first caused a precipitous weight gain. Well, it's a little slow but I've finally found some success and want to pass it along to you. I have lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks on this diet. It may not be exactly right for you but I do want to pass it along in some detail in case it works for someone else. First of all, I read every lable for caloric count before buying anything. You may be very surprised at how many hidden calories there are. My basic diet is about a cup of Kefir (liquid yogurt) for breakfast. Or a small carton of Yoplait fat-free yogurt. Either way, it's under 200 calories. This diet depends a great deal on having light soups available. I buy both 's and Progresso. Many are 200 calories or less per can. Please notice that's there's no cheese, no red meat, virtually no fat on this diet but it's healthy and I find it very good. It adds up to 1,000 or less calories a day. Good luck! Guest guest
Dear Sharon, I hope my info helps you. I, too gained 30 pounds on Sprycel and have been unable to take any of it off. I don't understand why you're still gaining. I have had my thyroid checked and even took meds for awhile to make sure my metabolism was normal. It was. However, I have heard that these meds (Sprycel and Gleevec, too) affect our hormones and that may be the reason we gain all the weight and can't take it off. I had the same problem with Gleevec. In fact I gained even more weight on Gleevec and lost it again when I lost response to that drug. Then I regained 30 pounds when I started taking Sprycel. I can't imagine how depressed you must be since you're gaining weight regularly. This diet which is fairly extreme is the first time I've been able to take off any weight at all. And it took 5 weeks to lose just 5 pounds. I didn't do any exercises though I know I should. If I wasn't on Sprycel I'd be losing weight a lot faster on this diet. The soups are really good and there's such a variety of flavors. Also, soup with meat and vegetables in them make you feel full so you don't feel like eating again until the next meal. I'm getting tired of salads but I figure I can steam some other vegetables and have those plus some protein with a little no-fat dressing for flavor. Let me know how you're doing. You can write to me directly at seloew12@.... Best wishes, Virginia [ ] Re: Successful Diet on Sprycel! Guest guest
You are so welcome, Sharon. I hope the info is helpful to you, too. I really wish someone would figure out why these meds cause weight gain/loss in some of us so we could do something about it before it becomes so overwhelming.
