Guest guest
Good Morning! I have a question for you all. I have been on 400mg of Gleevec since January 2008. I have recently begun to exercise. I have a rash, faint, under the skin on my thighs. I can't feel it (no bump) but can see it and it burns a little. Anyone else with this? Thanks and Blessings!! Guest guest
Dear Jo-Dee, Hi, I am in the Zavie 0 club, however, my memory fails me as to what my number is. I am a CML Survivor of 10 year Anniversary, and I am living my life to my fullest!!! However, I have been there, and still currently on Gleevec 400 mgs. I had that problem in the early infancy of maybe the first 3 months of utilizing Gleevec 300mgs. and unfortunately it is a temporary rash that comes on with the moisture from sweat, swimming, body heat moisture etc. I think if you can forgo some of the foods in ones diet, the rash is more controlled. I learned I became lactose intoleranced, from dairy, and since I also had a problem with gluten, white flour, bread gravies, I forgo all of these foods along with the exercising and swimming just to deal with the severe rash. When this happened I went to see my Primary who had no ideal why this rash kept spreading, from ones nails because mine was severely annoying, and it would spread to whereever the moisture came in contact with ones skin, Scratching it lightly, to the most warm and damp areas of your body it can spread like a wild-fire. I had asked my Primary Physician several time if she would check with her Internet Pharmacy and or someone who knew more about Gleevec, and what was not enclosed in the packaging, when we did receive it then on capsules, and how others combat, or managed a disruptive rash, which I believed came from the use of Gleevec. The unfortunate thing was she send me to a Dermatologist, who gave me Steroids and insisted it was eczema symptoms with Gleevec, and it was not eczema. My skin turned silvery, when I used it over a period time, and I started looking like the thing from a black and white T.V. version of Flash Gordon series. Although, there were no options since the Gleevec folks didn't even know at that time with Gleevec that this was one of the side-effects, I just had to go with what Medicine doesn't know. Then they gave me a prescription of Allegra ( maybe didn't spell that right), which is an Antihistamine to control the rash with this other drug called: 325 mgs. of Hydrocodone, which did dried out the spewing of the rash, that kept multiplying. All in all I use Allegra for up to 4 years, and what I didn't know about Allegra as a antihistamine that it causes severe dry mouth, which brings on dental cavities. With all the folks who have been on Gleevec 300-400mgs., and have moved on to others, there is so much more knowledge about how to correct or control one with the rashes that goes on with each of the prescribed drugs. Since we all have contacted in writing and email to Dr. Drucker, maybe you should seek his advice on what to use should it becomes annoying. If your rash is not too bad as far as spreading to other sensitive areas of your body, I would suggest in stop exercising, because when you sweat that was where my rashes came from, then spread everywhere on my body and it was extremely difficult especially in the summer of the seasons, where one sweats, until you get a grip on the rash. Good Luck and someone else can give you the email address on how to contact Dr. Drucker, for answers to body rashes. Hope you get the rash under control.
