Guest guest
Dear Virginia, I see you belong to our " elite " 10 year CML Club. I think it is a great milestone to have achieved, especially in light of what we were told when we were diagnosed. I am now at 14.5 years, like the little kids who tells you he is 3 1/2. As we age, we drop the fractions and when we get older, we go back to the fractions and our children become like parents. LOL My doctor always withheld my meds when the platelets dropped below 50. If they recovered when I had my next CBC, I would know to resume the meds. I have been on 7 different ones and in 5 trials. I have my CBCs done locally, but go to MDACC for treatment. I wouldn't be alive today without the doctors I have seen there. I had to change doctors for every trial and it was hard to let them go, but it was the protocol. I am finally dumping the local doctor whom I have seen for all of those years. I am tired of taking their BS and being treated less than because I left and went to MDACC. When a doctor stops speaking to you when he sees you, passes you by and does not even acknowledge you, it is time to exit his premises. I am in the process of getting my records transferred to the new doctor, but I have to drive to the next town. That is a giant step for me, like landing on the moon. LOL. Thank you for your input, I am sure others will chime in with their own experiences with their platelets. My platelets are so low that if I need surgery, they have to arrange for pumping me with platelets as well as the transfusions. Since I have reached CCR, I have not only felt better, but I have had only 1 transfusion. The Procrit is also helping. Viva CCR & Procrit!!!!!!! Hands & hearts, Lottie Duthu
