Our school did not require the kids to do anything except cover the infection to

come back to school and as I said the protocols are not requiring ANYthing but

handwashing. That is why I am pushing the IDF to come up with a protocol for our

Kiddos. I made that request in November and they said they are working with Dr.

Malech at NIH to get it to him. I wrote him a letter but did not hear anything

back regarding what to do . Hopefully they will come up with one soon. And

Valarie I know that your is a bit reversed since your son has the rash but it is

the same and more for all of our kids. Hey how did the mold issue turn out.

---I called our family drs office back, and the message I got back

from our dr is that he's fine, its fine, no worries, he can go to

school. Maybe I should call his ID dr? Until yesterday, I didnt even

think of the rash being something like this, I REALLY thought it was

aggravated bc he keeps wetting the bed...he wont wear pull ups

anymore, so its right there on his skin unless he wakes up(which is

pretty much never) or I can get him up to clean up.

Sometimes, I think our family dr forgets my kids have CVID. I mean,

mainly they are treated by pulmo or ID, and only at this dr for

" everyday " stuff. My other two are not on any prophylaxis anymore, so

I guess I was wondering if maybe they should be just in case. My 5 yr

old is already on prednisone for an asthma flare, and he's allergic to

sulfa, so he couldnt take the bactrim if he got it.

Do you know how long after it clears up they should be kept in? I

mean, if the rash heals up,is it still contagious at all?

and why does stuff like this ALWAYS happen on a Friday?!!! I hate

waiting over a weekend for test results!

thanks!

Staph or MRSA, an infection is an infection. There are so many kids

in school these days who are on immunosuppressant' s, steroids,

diabetics etc. that I think it would be a disservice to them to expose

them to it. What 7 year old boy doesn't pick at something that's

bothering him. Covered or not it exposes the whole class to it.

they're exposed to that we sometimes forget that other kids are there

with possibly similar situations. Macey has a history of MRSA so if

she was exposed to staph or MRSA again even by chance she has a higher

likelihood of getting it. All she needs is for it to colonize in her

nose or get into an open wound on her hand. Also I would turn into a

hand wash fiend around every other family member. The other 2 with

CVID as well as yourself could harbor the infection. This stuff

really creeps me out. It really sent Macey south when she was about 2

and that was way before they even really knew what the stuff was or

how to aggressively treat it.
