Guest guest
Ok, I'm seeing many prefer the Gammagard over the Viva. When we went to SCIG our only choice was Viva. My husband 36 and my son 6 both are IGA def, IGG subclass def, and low or no response to most vaccines. Also both have sinus, asthma, and constant rashes. That was before Viva. My son just did his #28 week, he was started right to SubQ after 1 dose of IV; it has changed his life. In 28 weeks he's only been on antibiotics 4 times and steroids 3 times, vs constantly, he still takes daily nebs, singular, and nasal spray; but we ditched the prophylactic antibiotics, the daily allergy meds and the reflux med. It's changed his life, he's gaining weight he looks healthy and I'm cautiously pleased. My husband, suffered from the time he was young, his mother begged and argued with Dr's that something was wrong, he went undiagnosed till he was in his late teens. Then at 19 was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, went through chemo and is in remission 16-17 years. He's done years of various antibiotic therapies as back then IVIG was expensive and health insurance didn't cover it and his at the time Dr thought that a last resort. He's sick all the time with sinus, he get aches and fevers for 24-48 hours then feels fine, what he deals with as day to day would leave most in bed, but it's all he knows. He had done IVIG gamunex? for the last 3 winters, they had him do it for 6 months, then go off for the summer. It was questionable if it worked, his issues were less, but not gone. When our son started SCIG, I convinced him to do it. He just did his #21 week of viva. It doesn't seem to be going as well for him. He's still taking antibiotics like candy and he could open his own drug store. After 3 surgeries his ENT says his sinuses are as clean as they can be. I keep telling him to hang in it takes 6 months. He hates this, there has got to be a better existence for him, doesn't there? Should he wait and see or consider switching products? Thoughts, Comments Welcome. I apply a lot of what I learn her to both my " children " and it's helped us so much. Thanks. Michele K
