Hi Lottie,

I do love your devotion to our group and the seemingly boundless energy you

put into researching articles of interest to us all! I think you have

a terrific sense of humor and I am sure we could be good friends under any

circumstance. However...

I read the article and I find it to be a typical Fox News manipulation of

facts designed to Frighten people and inflame passions, beginning with the

title they use, " Passing the Proposed Health Amendment Could be Harmful to

your Health " . To Fox News I say, oh come on!

When you read this article please consider some facts that are left out.

1. Many drugs we have been getting from our pharmacists for many years

are manufactured in foreign countries. Isn't Gleevec a product of the Swiss

company Novartis? Several of the pills on my shelf right now have labels

indicating they were made overseas, these all came from Kaiser Permanente, a

huge, U.S. HMO.

2. Canada has strict laws prohibiting companies from pirating patented

drugs. Many companies in the U.S. and Canada manufacture generic drugs,

drugs whose patents have expired. This has been the normal business practice

for many decades now.

3. Most funding for new drug research in the U.S. does not come from drug

companies. It comes from the U.S. Government and private charities who

solicit money for finding cures to serious diseases.

4. Drug companies pay hundreds of millions of dollars each year to smart

" word smiths " to find new ways to justify their exorbitant, extortionist

profits. They then pay people like Fox News and Congressmen... yes Democrats

and Republicans and One Independent, to read their words into the public

record and conscience.

You're absolute right, .

Fox News (Fixed News) is actually a propaganda arm of the Republican Party. 

Ailes, its leader, was actually a speechwriter for Nixon.

Under the status quo, about 30% of premiums paid to the private insurers in the

U.S. go to insurance company expenses, which include lavish salaries to

executives:  NOT to health care.

The insurance companies are frightened to death of a single payer, medicare for

all type systems because they would be forced to lower prices considerably. 

Only about 4% of premiums paid to Medicare go to expense, the rest to actual

health care.

By the way, the following Republican senators who oppose the public option are

on government funded Medicare: Grassley, McConnell, Hatch, Kyl, Enzi.  These

senators are the darlings of Fixed News.

Unfortunately there are CML patients in the U.S. who buy the lies and bullcrap

from Fixed News which is sad because Fixed News represent

the insurance companies who are making obscene profits while denying the health

care that we pay for with our premiums.

Hi ,

Gleevec is actually manufactured in Ireland. The raw drug is then shipped to

Switzerland where it is made into tablets/capsules and then packaged

according to country.

Carl,

One major problem with Medicare is fraud. I myself have Medicare and am very

concerned about the enormous sums of money stolen from Medicare. I too have a

problem with the obscene executive salaries paid out. Medicare fraud also

contributes to nothing actual heath care. These two problems must be solved

before any kind of extended health insurance will work.

I am including a Tinyurl link to a claim made by Sen. Tom Coburn about Medicare

fraud. There seems to be no politician who can be believed on any side. Lets

hope some good can come from health care reform!
