Guest guest
It just occurred to me as I've been trying to hunt down the pneumovax 23 for another booster that this is my 4th pneumonia shot (3rd pnumovax, don't know what one was, ARMY gave it to me at basic and didn't explain that kinda stuff) in the past 14 years or so, I got one when I was 18 because of recurrent pneumonia (I was a classic PIDD kid but being sick was just " normal " ) I know I got another one when I was 25 or 26 because I got pneumonia again and was told you need a booster after X years. Well I got pneumonia again, ok, I've gotten a really ugly case of it every winter the past 3 winters save this one. I had titers drawn and I'm only responding to half the stains so I need another booster. That's going to make 4 shots in 14 years, isn't that a bit over kill for a normal adult? Shouldn't I be holding those titers? That said I have 2 kids with hypogamma and 1 child with minimal T cell function and some B cell function and my other child who has a different father showed no B or T cell function at all (zero response to vaccines) until several months ago. We just redrew titers a few days ago to see if she's holding the ones she developed after this last round. I'm the only genetic link so I'm guessing I'm the carrier of the defective gene (we also have cousins with similar health issues but she refuses to get them worked up) anyway, should I be asking to see an immunologist? My overall IGGs are fine but we haven't looked any closer then that. I do like staying in our bubble because when I come out I do get sick with one thing after another. Guest guest
From what I understand immune dysfunction has many different variances based partly on families so yes it would make sense for you to see an immunologist. Pneumonia has the potential to damage the lungs and I see the most important job that I have is to protect my sons lungs from permanent damage. I know there are many studies going on with families to help determine the genetic makeup of such families in order to better treat families with inherited immune dysfunction. I would talk to your kids immunologist and get yourself a workup. It may may a huge difference in your life so you can better care for your kids. GOOD Luck. BARBIE How long should an adult hold titiers to the pnuemovax 23?
