Guest guest
I fast often, and just ended a 5 day juice fast. My husband a five day grape and juice fast. Appetite kicks in a few days. Strength is good the whole time. Occasional headache from coffee withdrawal or cleansing. Lasting benefits, unbelievable. He has been suffering greatly with Osteoarthritis and has been in need of surgery. Since fasting he has greatly improved to the point of normal activity and needs no surgery. He is working up to a 2 week juice fast, combined with a one week total fast. When fasting make sure your bowels are moving or you will get sick, and the proper breaking of a fast is most important. This is the only precaution, except it is best if you do not take vitamins while fasting. Start with a 1/2 day fast, move up to a whole day, then two, then three, and upwards. Guest guest
Hi Suz! I am new to the list and also I am quite new to fasting but I managed to do a ten day liquid diet with wonderful results! The first two days were the hardest ones, but then I had so much energy that I even cleared most of my house of " clutter " (to the delight of my husband). I had gained some 20 pounds since December; I lost 13 pounds which probably is not good for you, but you might not lose so much weight...My skin cleared from acne, and pain in my joints went away. I did the cleansing for the pain in the joints mainly. According to Dr. Airola the broth I took in the morning had 3 medium potatoes, 1 cup of carrots and one cup of celery with 6 cups of water; once the water boiled you lower the flame and let it steam for 30 minutes. At the end you add some green (parsley, dandelion, etc.) and since I love herbs I added some rosemary and thyme. For lunch it was a glass of fruit juice done in the juicer (apple, pineapple, or any mixture of fruits except melons) and for dinner it was a big glass of carrot-celery juice. It was the most delicious experience and I was never hungry! Get well and have a wonderful fast! (Austin, TX)
Guest guest
I forgot to tell you that I discovered the best way to empty completely the water from the enema and it was by laying on the floor and putting my feet on a machine I got last year called Chi-Machine. It is a massager that moves your feet in a certain way that the whole body undulates. In 5 or 10 seconds I had a BM even when it seemed I had not water from the enema at all! The machine is expensive though (US$ 350 after the discount I get) but you might find something like it or maybe running around the block or jumping rope will do the trick? I don't know... Guest guest
I just started a fast today for the first time ever and I need encouragement in a bad way. My dr. told me to do a 2-3 day water fast, a minimum of one day, and then to eat raw vegies for the next 6-7 days. I am prone to hypoglycemia, and only weigh 93 lbs to start with, so I made a vegie broth from carrots, celery, green beans, and beet tops and drank a cup several times today. I also took Spirulina capsules along with my other vitamins and hormones. (My doc told me to take the vitamins.) I also did a lemon juice enema, followed by a coffee enema, which cleared out a bunch of garbage, but my problem is, I never do empty an enema, so I still have watery garbage gurgling around in there. It's even worse while not eating (colon not emptying), so tonight I am feeling very nauseous and dizzy. Are there any experts on this list who have an idea how to get the colon to empty? Also, those of you who have done a 3 day fast, which day do you usually feel the worst, the second or third day? I am doing this to get rid of candida and multiple food allergies. I've been eating healthy and doing herbs and other alternative healing for years, so this is a desperate attempt to do what none of the other remedies have done. I'll be anxious to hear from the rest of you while I'm drinking my peppermint tea. Thanks! suz
Guest guest
Hi Suz, I have done numerous fasts of different types, (water only, lemon juice/maple syrup/cayenne, and freshly extracted juices) for between 1 and 14 days, so I am familiar with your concerns. I heartily recommend fasting as an excellent remedy for all kinds of ills, and find that a 3 day fast can perk me up like nothing else can to make me feel clean inside. I always feel worse on the second day. By the middle of the second day, things start to pick up greatly, and by the 3rd day I feel so good, I am not even aware that I am on a fast. (I wrecked my last fast a couple of weekends ago when we went to an apple orchard to let the kids pick apples and I totally forgot and decided to sample the goods while we were picking....I was slapping myself for forgetting! I NEVER break a fast with apples!) Be encouraged--you will begin to feel good soon! I am not hypoglycemic, so I can't address those issues, but I do have an opinion on the vitamins. I don't think it is recommended to take supplements while on a fast, especially if they are synthetic at all. The whole purpose of a fast is to let your digestive organs take a rest and let the body utilize extracellular bodily debris for energy and to cleanse. The taking of supplements will not allow the liver or other organs to take that very necessary break. Your body does have a store of nutrients that it can utilize during a period of fasting, so supplementation is not necessary, and actually not recommended. It may actually interfere with the cleansing process. As for the enemas, I can only suggest that you start out lying on your back, then roll to your right side, knees to chest, and then make sure you spend enough time relaxing as you try to empty your bowels. You should have some strong peristaltic motions. If you don't have the motions, then your bowel needs time to repair and regain the muscle tone to produce peristalsis. I also want to suggest that when you do break the fast using raw vegetables, make sure they are high water content foods. Usually watermelon or oranges are suggested, but if you want to do a vegetable, something like steamed zucchini is a good choice. You don't want something too harsh on your system, as the digestive system has to " get rolling " again, and to produce the digestive enzymes necessary to utilize the food. You may want to take some of this time during a fast to read about fasting...and become well acquainted with this very important therapy that has been used for thousands of years. Dr. Fuhrman has an excellent book out (Fasting and Eating for Health) as does Bragg (The Miracle of Fasting). Good luck. Guest guest
; I'm sorry to hear of your discomfort in not being able to feel a competition to the process of an enema. I don't really think there is a truly complete one because even with colonics there are liver dumps that may occur after the treatment is over, and this tends to cause a nauseous sensation when the toxins may start to be reabsorbed in the colon. However, with an enema there could be the problem of not having good clean water too. Because of the potential of bacteria in the water supplies and especially the hot water supply there can be problems arising from the water not being pure enought. Enemas, colemas, and colonics should always be done using clean water which is free of bacteria and chemicals as these can be a reason for discomfort. The addition of sea salt to the water is one way some have found to reduce the absorption of the extra water in the colon. If you decide to try this just add one or table spoon to a two quart bag. When the water is salty it doesn't tend to be absorbed and then there isn't the tendency to feel a great discomfort. I personally feel some discomfort, even having used clean water, for about the first two hours after either an enema or colonic. It's usually quite mild, so it doesn't bother me all that much. You may also try laying on the left side to allow the water to settle more quickly to the descending side of the colon. DaleDa_@... Guest guest
There is something I want to share with you and all friends here before I answer your question. It is about my experience during the last vacation in Bulgaria. It is a small country between Greece, Roumania and Yugoslavia. The climat is warm, people too, there are plenty of beautiful high mountains. Take a look at the photo-gallery http://bulgaria.n3.net Almost everybody grows his own food. The difference between our, american grown food and theirs is huge. Nothing can be compared to the deep sweet taste of those home grown tomatoes! Look here http://bulgaria.n3.net/graphics/veggiesCU.jpg Here I should mention that the biggest number of longest living people in Europe are in Bulgaria. When I buy peaches, melons or grape from the market there, the fragnance fills up the whole house! (I can hardly feel any taste at all in those from our local fruit store) I can bet that not only the taste but the vitality and mineral/vitamin content on these fruits is much higher than ours, in America. Needless to say that with all the abundance of fruits and vegetables I did not even think of cooked food. But what was really shocking to me is that just a week after my arrival there, while enjoying fresh air in the mountains, eating fresh fruits and vegetables, all kind of physical problems (numbness of the feet and hands, kidney infections, bowel problems) simply started disappearing! I've been dealing for years with these problems, armed with all my knowledge and patience, keeping strictly to the protocols of Hulda, Bernard Jensen and . I use digestive enzymes, the best brand vitamins (as recommended by Hulda), liquid minerals, bowel flora, zapper, enemas, eat planty of fruits and vegetables, vitamin C powder ... you name it. But the miracle could not happen before I switched to NORMAL environment in Bulgaria, with NORMAL, rich of vital force, vitamins and minerals food! The truth is been so close to me -- we do not need all these complications -- vitamins, minerals, enzymes, hormones... All we need is to live NORMAL live, as we were initially created, in a normal environment. For the rest Nature takes care. It was a real miracle to discover that. So at the end of the third week, my hands and feet were warm and sensitive again, the urine became crystal clear, the tongue had no white film on it and I started having 2-3 BM per day. Not to mention the feeling of joy and love that filled me up. What more can I say? About the question you ask below: 1. I personally try to do some exercies like rolling around on the ground, lie on my left and right side, even stand in a vertical position with my head pointing down. This way I let the watter flow back into the colon. 2. When you sit (squat) massage your lower abdomen to help the water flow back into the colon. Stay in this position and wait for the next portion of water to come. Walking around or standing straight might desturb this process. 3. Use cool water. Warm water relaxes the colon and does not promote good elimination. 4. Sitting is never been a natural position for eliminating. The sitting toilets have been invented by a lazy king. As with everything else, they have been FORCED to us by the system that replaced herbs with drugs. The practice and researches show that elimination is complete only in a natural squat position. This could be one of the factors why people in Bulgaria and other " developing " countries are healthier than here, in America. (they still use the old style toilets) Hope this long answer helps :-) Ludmil ---------------------------------- and hormones. (My doc told me to take the vitamins.) Guest guest
> I not hypoglycemic either, but doesn't flax seed oil in the juice slow > down the sugar effect? I think I read that some where. > I think Schulze recommends using his super food during a fast > which is loaded in vit and minerals. Dr. Schulze may have a vested interest in selling his product--is that possible? Here is what Dr. Fuhrman writes in his book, Fasting and Eating for Health on this subject: " Vitamins are not generally required because within the body's cells are adequate reserves of protein, fat, minerals, and vitamins that can be called upon during periods of famine, food scarcity, or fasting. Even in prolonged fasts (those lasting from 20 to 40 days) no deficiency diseases develop, illustrating that the body has the innate ability to utilize its stored reserves in a highly exacting and balanced manner. Today, with modern laboratory tests available, it is simple to check the blood for levels of every vitamin and mineral, as well as for electrolytes and other essential factors. Interestingly, these levels of vitamins and minerals are exceedingly stable during the fast and, if normal to begin with, remain normal throughout the period of fasting. " and again, " Vitamin deficiency attributed to fasting is exceedingly rare. It normally doesn't occur on fasts less than 45 days in length unless the individual was depleted at the onset of the fast. Taking vitamins during a fast is unnecessary and can create unpleasant symptoms. Many of the physicians who have fasted patients and reported their findings in the medical literature have given vitamins during the fast. However, there is no evidence that this in any way increases the safety of the fast. During a total fast the gastrointestinal tract is better not disturbed with vitamin supplementation. Sufficient vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients are released in appropriate proportions from tissue stores during the fast. Other physicians than myself who have fasted thousands of patients do not find vitamins of any value during this period. This is confirmed by the observations of other researchers, who noted that vitamin deficiency due to involuntary fasting was very rare among famished populations during World War II, and reported only problems from vitamin supplementation during fasting. The body's own vitamin reserve more than meets the body's requirements while on a moderate-length fast. It has been proposed that fasting increases the ability of the tissues to absorb and utilize nutrients. From my experiences, it is clear that we need not worry about the issue of vitamins in a fast of moderate length. I have found that the results of blood tests for vitamin and mineral levels change little during the fast; tests are expensive and unnecessary. " There is nothing in his exhaustive book about the use of flaxseed oil to sustain any effect on blood sugar levels. Patty

Guest guest
Patty, Can you post the recipe for the water, lemon, maple syrup/cayenne fast? I am getting ready for my first fast, and I have heard that the fast with maple syrup is great for not being hungry. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your comments about fasting and enemas. I had a rough evening and night because of the large amount of crap that boiled in my gut like a volcano and refused to come out. I had terrible headaches and nausea and my heart pounded all night. The nausea lingers yet today, even though I did another lemon juice enema this morning. I'm trying raw carrot and celery juice today. Just hope I'm not allergic to either, as I have lots of food allergies. I do feel slightly better. Just wish this garbage would pass from my gut. I've tried all the suggestions all of you made (except the one with the expensive machine - never heard of it and can't afford it). You were all a lot of encouragement to me. Now if I don't feel wonderful by tomorrow or the next day, I will be sorely disappointed! suz

Do you all think I should continue to avoid the potato broth while trying to get rid of candida? suz

Thanks for the info. In his book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, Dr. Balch suggests that hypoglycemic and underweight people can take spirulina during a fast. I took 6 capsules during the day yesterday, but haven't taken any today. Anyone have info or an opinion on taking spirulina during a fast? suz
Guest guest
While on a fast I was told (by someone who works for the product Primal Defense) that it was OK to take probiotics. Is that true?
Guest guest
It is a long story. But to make it short -- my parents never gave me the knowledge of proper body care and nutrition. So, I was living on a terrible junk diet day by day. It was untill age of 16 when I started developing first stomach & bowel problems (poor digestion, constipation), then skin problems, later sinus infections. When doctors intervented with all their drugs and antibiotics things got worst. Untill recently I had no idea (like millions of people out there) that the source of all these problems was in the colon, so I had no choice but to believe the doctors. Man, did they try their science on me. Starting with the hoses that they stick in any body opening they find :-), x-rays, tomography, drugs, needles, even tranquilizers... sounds like middle ages inqusition, doesnt it? These things did not make the situation any better. Finally, thanks God, 3 years ago I found out, by pure " chance " about parasite cleansing. I started with it, plus correcting my diet into vegeterian one. Later I got the book " Tissue cleansing through bowel management " -- a real enlightement, a must read! So, in about 2 years after couple of cleanses that cost nothing but couple of dollars (an enema bag + clean water) I achieved what doctors could not do with hundreds of dollars in 15 years. And all this because they never taught me a proper diet and colon care. Today my skin is almost cleared up, the ever running nose and winter colds are a bad memory, so are the poor digestion and peristaltic. During the course of cleansing I got many black stuff and hard " rubber " mucoid layers out. So, today I try to help others who feel miserable in the hands of conventional medicine through the web site http://cleansing.n3.net If somebody has a good info to share with us he is welcome to send it to me. I will publish it on the website. The picture with me is made 2 years ago at the " Red river " in Quebec. > Ludmil: I checked out your pictures - they are indeed beautiful!!!
