Guest guest
Hello, I am new to the group and was wondering if anyone has any advice on fatigue? I am on 400mg of Gleevac daily. I am always exhausted, never feel like I sleep enough. I am not sure if there is anything I can do to help? I also work full-time and have 2 small children a 1 year old and 4 year old. I would like any advice, Thanks
Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome to the club! I too am on the same dosage with the same side effects. I think you will find most of us are and do suffer from the same effects. I would suggest to try and a little workout time in. Even if its walking down the street and back. It helps a little for me! Take care and stay strong! Guest guest
Hi after 9 months on Gleevec, virtually all of my side effects have gone. Tiredness hit me somewhat to begin with but now it's not too bad though I do like my sleep. If your children are anything like mine were at that age, then that's enough to exhaust you never mind blaming the Gleevec as well! Over here in the UK we currently don't have the option of switching for reasons relating to side effects like tiredness but in my case (like many others) they diminish over time anyway and I've pretty much got used to it now I barely notice it. Good luck ________________________________ From: Rosen Lum <rrosenlum@...> Sent: Tue, February 23, 2010 8:17:28 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Fatigue A lot of the Gleevec side effects dissipated with time for me. However, I could just never get a handle on that chronic fatigue and after nearly five years on Gleevec switched to Spyrcel. Now I may move to Tasigna for the same reason. Guest guest
I have taken Gleevec since June 2005. I am now PCRU. But I'm still very tired. My doctor suggested that I go to Tasigna to reduce this side effect, but I have a heart condition (hypertension and atrial fibrillation). I take Coumadin. Guest guest
Besides all of the physical side effects that all of you are talking about, I have noticed that I don't really if I have to wait extra long in line at the grocery store as I usually start a conversation with a stranger and get to know someone new, I don't really care if I get stuck at a red signal light as I can always find something good on the radio, and I have this extreme side effect of enjoying my day to day life much more than I did pre-cml! Nausea - yes, cramping - yes, muscle pain - yes......much better to feel these side effects than the alternative..... we       could                all                      be                            6                               feet                                     under! Enjoy what we have been given! ________________________________ From: Gilles <cousineaugilles@...> Sent: Mon, January 24, 2011 8:06:32 PM Subject: Re: [ ] fatigue  I have taken Gleevec since June 2005. I remember well that dull December afternoon, 33 years ago. It took me a couple of years and a soul awaking to remember all I did have. I continue to be a very lucky man, I have a home, food, Children, and Grandchildren I think I have more than my share, unlike at least 80% of the world population struggling. We don't talk about fatigue all of the time, because it is a given and we would all soon grow tired of hearing it, because we all live with it. You have to know your limitations and try to do something with the energy you do have. I have to do things in steps, a little today and a little tomorrow. I may do more than some and less than others, but baby steps are better than none. I had foot surgery in '03 and the doctor told me I would be in a wheel chair in 2 years because the bones in my feet are not all connected and they would keep breaking. My expiration date has come and gone and my wheel chair is gathering dust in a corner and I don't look at it or even think about it. Sometimes I think the data spewed about is speculation, so it shouldn't scare us away or allow us to become paranoid. One day at a time. Guest guest
Hi Tom, You are so right. A friend of mine told me several years ago that in an odd way getting CML was the best thing that happened to me. My life has been much richer because of CML. I have met some extraordinary people because of CML and CML has given me the opportunity to help many patients. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that you have saved a life.
