Guest guest
Hi Lynn, I guess the important thing is the mold issue. The rest of it is not really medical. So if you can prove that there is a mold issue all that it should take is a letter from your doctor. I had my son transferred based on the fact that there were carpets on the floors in the classrooms. In the other school they even bought him a filter to run while he was in the classroom. You should not need an appointment to talk to the nurse to get a letter. I generally would send the info you had in this post , with my request for the letter and also just for a reminder for the doctor my sons issues and hospitalizations so that when he writes the letter they have the info in front of them. Do make sure you have your info from a reputable source not just hearsay, So the question is how do you know there is mold at the school? You could even take a walk around the school and take pictures of carpets, wet ceiling tiles or what ever to make your case. BARBIE Sending her off to school, need help getting her into better one! ok, we've been hs'ing and I still hate it. There no way I'll allow her to go to the local school she's been assigned to as the majority of students are immigrant (which brings its own health issues), half do not speak English and its classified as a failing school and is literally one of the worst in the nation and to add to the fun 30% of the students were suspended for acts of violence last year and yes this is K-6th grade. There's a school I'd love for her to attend that's about 15 minutes from here, seems wonderful, everything we want and parents love it. Only problem is we don't live in that district. I can request an intradistrict transfer based on medical need but we don't go back to see the immunologist for 2 months and I don't want to wait, anyone good at letter writing that can help me compose a personal statement as to why we need a transfer to a better school? I need to come at it from a health perspective if possible. Problems with local school: Total enrollment 873 for her grade level: 142 Is in disrepair Has mold issues (dd has a severe mold allergy that's landed her in the hospital multiple times) We live in very gang infested neighborhood, were race matters, hell, what color you wear matters and I was not aware of this when I signed the lease so the fact that only 2% of the children at this school are our race is asking for her to get beat up. I love diversity in classes but not in this case. 90% are Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Average class size for her grade 21.3 students 46% are English learners Suspension rate last year was 29.8% (most were for acts of violence and bringing guns/knives to school and if I remember right there were even sexual assaults ) Expulsions last year 3 Failed inspections in mechanical systems, interior and exterior electrical problems, pest/vermin infestation, playground/school grounds in disrepair 70% or higher are failing in all areas on tests API rank is 1, yes 1 out of 10, its been 1 for at least 3 years Did not meet AYP School I want her to attend: Total enrollment 395 for her grade level: 68 (less germ mongers! lol:) average class size 19.3 97% speak English 25% are Socioeconomically Disadvantaged 52% same race with remaining split evenly between 2 other races (i.e., a bit more diverse, less likely to get picked on as far as race goes) Suspensions 3 expulsions 0 all areas are in good repair more then half are passing in all test areas API rank 8 (9 on the great schools website) actual API score 850 obviously met AYP has after school programs including daycare, dance and karate that I know of. Families seem to love the school and there is a lot of parental involvement in the day to day running of the school. Any one really good at writing letters? Education is very important to me and I'm afraid I'm going to come off as some, I dunno, uppity racist because I don't want my child going to school in what's basically a festering cesspool holding pen for future gang members? I've got a heavy load for school this semester, I've got to find a job and I do not have time to home school nor do I want the added stress of fighting her to get things done (and we've tried it all from unschooling to virtual schools over the last 3 years). She needs to go to either school or daycare and I can't afford daycare so school it is! 7 CVID on SCIG and loving it! Lilly 19 mo and now they think hypogama of infancy w/ specific antibody deficiency (we'll find out next month when labs are drawn again!)
