Low Dose Natrexone? Supplements?

Hi,

I have several relatives with Multiple Sclerosis and recently one of

them told me about a drug that she has switched to, Low Dose Natrexone

or LDN. Apparently it stimulates the immune system. I was wondering if

anyone here had heard of it or tried it for CVID? I know there are

studies showing it has applications for HIV and autoimmune disorders

so just curious if it might be useful for CVID.

Also, is anyone giving their kids supplements to help boost immunity

and if so, which have you seen the most success with? My Cass is on

Oregano Oil, Olive Leaf Extract and GSH but I can't tell if they are

making any difference or not.

Thanks,

Jenn

We have been strongly DISCOURAGED in using ANY suppplements or herbs due to the

risk of causing autoimmune disease. The issue comes with the body being

disregulated so increasing the immune function can cause it to attack itself.

The only product that I know that is being used is Gamma globulin and or a Bone

Marrow Transplant in some cases. But I do not know anything about his product

and in what ways it might be useful. We use Omega 3s and a good multi vitamin as

well as probiotics but am wary at this time in trying anything else without

professional help from a VERY knowledgeable herbalist or Natropath. I know that

I was going to use Melatonin for my sons sleep issues but was very surprised to

find that it can cause immune suppression or auto immune problems in some

cases.

Wow. That is so different from CF. There's a whole message group in

the CF community specifically devoted to supplements and natural

treatment alternatives.

I suppose I'll have to find an immunologist for sure - I was going to

just let Cassidy's pulmo treat her as he does that for all their CVID

patients in that office. I would have thought that stimulating the

immune system was good - afterall IVIG boosts the immune system by

introducing more IGG. So much to learn. Thank you for your response, I

will definitely discuss risks with her doctors.
