Guest guest
Hi Joe I would sday the best way to find out about the pcr is to call the lab tha is going to process your blood/urine (it can be either). About WB; the best way is to call your insurance. good luck lea ct PS if Igenex is going to do it their number 800-832-3200 In a message dated 5/7/00 7:26:52 PM Eastern Daylight Time, roe0325@... writes: > to all, > Hi, does anyone know how a PCR test is done? is blood or urine used? > how should the doctor draw and supply the lab with the sample? Guest guest
<<How soon do u get to find this out--isn't it @ 12 weeks and if u are not coming donw fast enough u will be taken off the peg-intron. >> I dunno about the peg, I should think it wouldn't be much different from the norm. Down here we get tested prior to starting treatment and then in 6 mo. If we are a geno 1, and if we are undetected at 6 mo, we continue treatment till 48 weeks. If we are not geno 1, then probably stop treatment at 6 mo. I wouldn't want to determine my eligibility for continuing treatment on anything less than a 6 mo pcr. alley
Guest guest
Sometimes you have to take as many as 10 tests both blood and urine to see if it will come up positive. Some people who are so very sick with lyme never get a positive PCR. There are some drs who only will use this test as a means of telling whether you have lyme. I used to think this was the only definitive test there was but I am not so sure anymore. Hope this helps. Kim
Guest guest
if it comes back negative, i don't necessarily think it means you don't have lyme anymore. but if you want to have a PCR test maybe you should go with the MDL test because they take insurance. http://www.mdlab.com/index.html i know that most everyone says that the Western Blot at IGenex is the best test for Lyme. have you had that done yet? also i would post this question over at the flash discussion section of LymeNet http://www.lymenet.org/ thanks bill > Sometimes you have to take as many as 10 tests both blood and urine to see if it will come up positive. Guest guest
Because we were initially told MDL was the best, I've been recommending it for the last year BUT recently heard from two diff LLMD's (one in Cal, one in Tx) that they also have tooooo many false negs. They're trying to work out the scientific details and may be back on the diagnostic radar screen soon. Both of those docs prefer Igenex because their tests are now very specific and sensitive. As far as insurance goes, you pay Igenex up front and they provide a form to send to your insurance to be reimbursed. In our situation, we had testing done at both labs (at slightly different times). We got the money back from the insurance for Igenex but got " above customary " for MDL. Guest guest
I had a positive PCR from Igenex. It was a urine sample. We believe I contracted Lyme 22 years ago, but was not diagnosed until Feb. '03, based on history and clinical sx, then confirmed by the positive PCR. Guest guest
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone new how long it takes for PCR test result to come through? I was told by my doctor it will take 4 weeks. I don't get on with him nor really trust him... Not a good sign at all, isn't it?
Guest guest
It normally takes just under two weeks at the three centers I have been tested. Guest guest
All depends where the test itself is done - if your hospital does it in house (not all do - many will send the samples away to specialist labs), they can have it in a very short time after they take your blood. If they send it away, a little longer, so 4 weeks doesn't sound out of line to me. It is a little laborious to do and requires a certain degree of skill to do it (more complex than a simple blood test), but it is a very widely used process and not just for CML. Mine are done each time I visit the hospital (actually about the day after the blood is taken) and I get the result the next time I go back (about every 3 months) although they will have them much sooner than that because they are done in house. I am sure that if any result was not good, they would call me back sooner but as Glivec has worked so well, they haven't so far. Shame you don't trust your doctor. I both like and completely trust mine, and did from the day I met him - he is a CML expert, which helps. I know that if things were more difficult for me than they seem to be, I would trust his advice. I think it's important to find someone you trust and who gives you confidence - CML is actually very well understood by the specialists, so they should be able to do that. ________________________________ From: d'Araille <darajek@...> Sent: Thu, February 4, 2010 9:50:54 PM Subject: [ ] PCR test  Hi All, I was wondering if anyone new how long it takes for PCR test result to come through?
