You know how to upllift all of us when we do not have answers for ourselves or answers to give someone else. I can still remember the day that I was told I had Leukemia, as I am sure everyone on here can remember the day they were told. Its very hard on all the newcomers. They do not know what to expect, and I hope all our responses help them to know that CML is not like it was years ago. There are so many breakthroughs for all the people who are just being diagnosed now. You can live life to the fullest, even with the side effects that some of us get with whatever medication we are taking. I look at Skip with his 30 plus years, and others who have had CML for years and did not reach PCRU, but they are still going strong. I started my 12th year on Dec. 12 of 2009, and I hope to see others look back and see where they have been and where they are going. I am into my 3rd month of my 12th year, and plan on starting my 13th year in Dec. of 2010 God Bless Everyone Here A. Telling her story to newcomers is 's way of contributing to the group, and how it is needed cannot be disputed. Here you can be part of a group who assemble via cyberspace to become comrades. I call it being a number, or you can get a number from our High Priest, Zavie when we have reached a certain level we consider safe ground. Phew, what a relief to be here. After that, the sky's the limit. Sue has gotten her PCRU the hard way, she worked for it. Guest guest
In May I start my 16th year, seems forever ago. They said 5 years, I am going on 11 " extras " . Did that horrible Interferon I was on for 9 weeks help me to get where I am? I know the Gleevec did, and I could not have got into that trial without having been on Interferon, so that is a yes, for whatever reason. I am in a great place today on this Ariad drug, aside from being 80, I feel great. Congratulations to all you " oldies " . good luck to all you " newbies " , and blessings to everyone. Love, Bobby a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.017 11/2009 PCR 0.034 #840 Zavie's Zero Club From: A <suzzienovember@...> Subject: Re: RES: [ ] Happy Cancerversary Date: Saturday, March 13, 2010, 9:13 PM  Hi Ciro: Nice hearing from someone in Brazil. Guest guest
Hi Bobby: Congratulations on where you are in your journey with CML. I always wondered about my first treatment of Interferon also. I did it for 12 weeks with the ARA-C thrown in there for good measure. I did the ARA-C every other week in combination with the Interferon. I often wonder if even that short period of Interferon really helped me also. When it started to have issues with my liver, they put me on Hydrea and I was searching out the idea of a BMT. Then I went into clinical trial for the Gleevec. You are absolutely right about that we qualified for the clinical trial due to the failure of Interferon for us.    I always say that God has been with me through all of this from day 1.    Glad your doing so good on the ARIAD TRIAL. I also love your sense of humor.
