Guest guest
Remember the saying, Bobby, everything is bigger in Texas and maybe that includes waiting time. I have heard 2 other people who referred to MDACC as a zoo. I think it is because it is so large, it is overwhelming, but you get used to it, you really do. For the amount of people that cross the threshold every day, it is an amazing institution. Just thought I had to root for the home team here, even though they are not the Ducks. ________________________________ Hi Lottie, My post tried to explain how a traditional clinic works....and that is what MDACC is (no real appt time, blood tests not personalized to what the patient actually needs but standard for all, etc). It is what it is......and medicine needs a lot of improvment in this country. With all those unnecessary tests go unnecessary charges to health insurance, Medicare, etc. This is a waste of our resources for medical care....and this is documented and realized by those trying to reform health care. For my consult visit, it was like they had no record of my previous time at MDACC, when I was there for triple therapy.....and they were going to repeat blood tests that you only need to have done once (like blood typing, HLA match and others).....I just refused to let them do this and to take extra blood from me and access unnecessary costs....but I had to stand my ground like a mac truck. OHSU has gone to electonic charting (even the Uni Health Center that I worked at up until 2004 already had electronic charting). This means your medical record is available for another MD to see (you don't have to hand carry anything to your appt). Dr. Druker does use a paper chart as well, but there is a computer in the room and they can immediately get the results of any test, like my blood work. This is another thing that is supposed to be part of health care reform, and will save time, prevent paper errors, etc. I was not trying to step on any toes Lottie. I think if people have a good experience they should say so.....and if they don't, they should also share that information. There are some top cml specialists at MDACC....but it would be nice if they could give you more than 5 minutes of their time, and not look like they are heading for the door. Just my 2 cents. PS when I went to Houston from Oregon, it was a 17 hour travel day! Eugene to Denver, to Houston....shuttle to MDACC C.

Guest guest
Hi Bobby, I spoke to Lottie this morning. She was groggy at the start but after a while she was back to her old self. We chatted for 30 mins. The doctors hadn't come in yet. She thanks everyone for their concern and good wishes. Even while she is in hospital she is more concerned about Jimmy and his health problems than her own. I hope and pray that they find something to ease her pain.
