Dear Cheryl,

Please don't rule out Sprycel until you have given it a chance. There are

several drugs that people didn't seem to tolerate at first and after a while,

they were normal. Sometimes it takes years as Sue relates in her personal

story. Unfortunately, time is not always on our side.

It was not my idea to get off Sprycel, I was willing to stay on it longer

than 2 1/2 years, but I think my doctor wanted to get me in a trial while they

were still open. I think he understands my financial situation, being on

retirement benefits - which leaves little wiggle room.

The really important thing is we have several options and still more trials

in the pipes, so for the majority of us, that should make us all more hopeful.

Wasn't there someone recently who reported that they had gone back to Gleevec,

even with all of the side effects? We are living longer and better today than

ever in the history for many diseases, some which were incurable, but are now

manageable. I have been on seven different chemos and while I have had my

problems with each, whichever one I am on is the one for me now. I am just so

grateful that we have choices and there is the " great white hope " just around

the corner. Think of it this way, Cheryl, how many more people are being saved

by Sprycel than those who can't tolerate it well? The ratio would be in

Sprycel's favor and it's ranked as one of the top choices by doctors. If my

boat was sinking, I would be happy to see a life raft full of Sprycel patients.

I always look to Skip for inspiration. We have an enigma in our midst and a

role model even for doctors to study. Now if he would just release that secret

he carries around to us!!!!!!!! Let's pray for his doctors that they will pull

a rabbit out of the hat, just for him. What I find so amazing about Skip is his

sense of humor is still intact and let us not forget his faith has played a huge

role his entire existence. He probably ran around in the woods with

Boone with a coonskin cap. LOL My boys wore coonskin caps and ran around the

yard playing cowboys and Indians with their little cap pistols, so I guess that

makes me pretty old, too. LOL

It is good to have dialog like this, it gives us different perspectives and

we are able to hear from others about the good and the bad aspects they have

experienced. Maybe you will want to discuss those with your doctor before

switching, so you can make an informed decision that you are more comfortable

with. Way to go, Cheryl, even though we know enough about you that you are

limited in your choices, we know you will not make a choice without forethought

of mind, as is evidenced by your participation in our tete a tetes. Just look

at us as your pep squad, and who loves ya, baby????

Hands & hearts,

Lottie Duthu
