Guest guest
Toni, Maybe it wasn't all together the MTX. I have lupus also, so that is probably the culprit, it's been giving me a fit lately also. I use to have tons of hair too, it got so bad, I had to cut it off to look decent, it was breaking so bad. You can give me some of that hair, lol take care my friend, Tawny > Tawny, > > I had no hair loss on MTX but I did have a little bit on Arava. Guest guest
have you had your thyroid checked? Helen P. pretty24355 <kfonseca@...> wrote: Hi all, I have run into a major problem and need your input. I was on Enbrel & Methotrexate for 1.5 years. I have been experiencing major hair loss for a few months. My Rheumy said it can be the MTX and I should double my folic acid. I did double it, but I also chose to go off the MTX (with her consent) to make sure that it is what was causing the hair loss. I did this because I am 54 and going through menopause-which can also cause hair loss. I have not had any MTX for 4 weeks, but I am still losing a lot of hair. My Rheumy said it can take some time for the effects of MTX to leave my system and that they even, for example, do not recommend getting pregnant until you are off of MTX for 3 months. I know my hair loss could be menopause, but it is not too likely. Menopause causes male-pattern baldness (top of head/forehead line etc.) but I am losing hair everywhere. Anyone else experience this? Any pointers you can share? Supplements? If it was the MTX causing the hair loss, how long before yours stopped? Thanks for any and all help, __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Helen, I am hypothyroid and am checked every few months. I am having it done again tomorrow as a safeguard. But, since I am on meds for my thyroid, I doubt it it the culprit. Thanks, --- In Rheumatoid Arthritis , Helen <helen050959@...> wrote: > > have you had your thyroid checked? > > Helen P. > > pretty24355 <kfonseca@...> wrote: Hi all, > > I have run into a major problem and need your input. My rheumy said thatit was from the methotrexate and that it can continue up until 6 months after I stop taking it, as that is the time frame it takes some to get out of their systems. Are you still takingfolic acid? My rheumy said that I will still need to take my folic acid after I stop metho because you may still have a folic acid defficiency. Also I take biotin which is a supplementmy rheumy recommends for the hair loss. It doesn't stop the hair from falling outbut it does seems to make it grow back a little faster. I have experienced excessive hair loss to the point that I now wear a wig. Hope this helps, and best wishes, Holly Anyone else experience this? Any pointers you can share? Supplements? Guest guest
Dear - Take Heart. I have fine baby thin hair. I am on MTX on a low dose only. Prednisone doesnt help either. I take a skin and nails supplement that really works. You can buy folic acid otc and biotin and panthenol seperately, but I just take four flinstones chewables a day. Do not blow dry your hair. Let it dry naturally and use a shampoo to add volume biolage without drying your hair. Another big help. Get a ceramic straightener. The cuticle of the hair shaft is sealed that way. Makes a big difference!! You can also use those caruso steam rollers. They add moisture to your hair and tons of curl. Buy aphogee Green Tea and Keratin Hair Strengthener at your local sally beauty and something called fat hair. They should help!!!!!!!!! One more thing. Drink lots of fluids. Get as many fruits and veggies as you can into you. Target makes a super multi vitamin that has everything but the kitchen sink. You need to feed your hair from the inside out and soothe and strengthen from the outside. Hope this helps.
