Guest guest
Wow, a 3% log reduction is great, congrats! do you mind sharing your diet and excercise program as I have been carrying the same 40 lb gain from the meds. From: thornton_cheryl <thornton_cheryl@...> Subject: [ ] I really am a " special case " LOL Date: Friday, March 19, 2010, 1:25 PM  Hello All! I met with the transplant Dr. in Hamilton and my local Dr. this week and wanted to give you an update... Transplant Dr. is thinking that I was diagnosed incorrectly in blast crisis and is not convinced I need to go to transplant.. when I met with the local Dr. today and told her this she said maybe it's time to get some really experienced eyes looking at your case...she is emailing Dr. Cortes to get a consultation on this as she has never had anyone present in blast crisis - and neither has Dr. Lipton in Toronto who I saw back in January...I had some questions for her regarding my case and she really couldn't answer them...she also told me that she was going to do a write up on my case and present it at the European Hematological conference coming up soon, in the hopes that someone somewhere has dealt with a case like this... However, in the meantime I received the results of my PCR test done on Feb.11th - I have had a 2.82 log reduction (in only 2 months on Gleevec) and my local Dr. was very pleased with this - as was I...she said I was probably at a 3 log reduction by now - and she is petitioning for approval to have my pcr tests done every 6 weeks instead of every 3 months since my case is so " special " I am grateful that the Gleevec continues to work its miracles and pray that it continues... I am doing well, feeling good, and have lost almost 30 pounds so far on my new diet and exercise regimen... Hoping all is well with everyone! Guest guest
Cheryl, Wow! You're right...you are special! I am so happy to hear that it seems like Gleevec is doing the trick and that there may be a different direction in your treatment! You must feel like you've been on the wildest rollercoaster on the planet after the past few months. Best wishes, Beth [ ] I really am a " special case " LOL  Hello All! Guest guest
As far as my diet goes...I drink alot of water - 10-12 glasses per day and I try to stay away from high sodium things - I'm eating high fibre cereal for breakfast with fruit in between if need be...low sodium soup and crackers for lunch...for dinner 3 oz of meat, lots of veggies and more water...I don't do desserts anymore - the occasional low sodium nacho chip with homemade guacamole is my treat...for exercise - I am doing 40/day of either treadmill or aerobics... Guest guest
Thanks Jackie! It is wonderful to know that I have almost gotten to MMR when my local Dr. didn't think I'd even get to CCR...and this quickly too - which makes me think that maybe I could have been put on a lower dose, but we shall see...I think it will be good that more experienced eyes will be taking a look at my case - if nothing else just to confirm that my Dr. is on the right page with treatment...if we still need to proceed to BMT than that's what I will do, but for now I'm just grateful to be feeling good, because we all know how quickly that can change...I'm so thankful for Gleevec and the people who made it their lives mission to get this medicine out there for us and to all those who are searching for a cure...the last few months have certainly been a roller-coaster ride - especially for me in a car that seems to be moving at a faster rate than those around me... Keep your fingers crossed that I continue to do well on the Gleevec and that these new " eyes " will be able to tell us more about my case. Blessings to you, Cheryl > > Dear Cheryl, > Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! That is great news. Dr Cortes is out of the country until Tuesday, but rest assured he will get back to your doctor as soon as he can. He is very prompt on email replies. This is exciting for you and I am so happy. You have been through a terrible scare. At least you have the necessary steps done if a BMT is needed. It always pays to be prepared. > > God Bless you, > Jackie S. > > > > > > ________________________________ > From: thornton_cheryl <thornton_cheryl@...> > > Sent: Fri, March 19, 2010 3:25:40 PM > Subject: [ ] I really am a " special case " LOL > > > Hello All! > > However, in the meantime I received the results of my PCR test done on Feb.11th - I have had a 2.82 log reduction (in only 2 months on Gleevec) and my local Dr. was very pleased with this - as was I...she said I was probably at a 3 log reduction by now - and she is petitioning for approval to have my pcr tests done every 6 weeks instead of every 3 months since my case is so " special " > > I am grateful that the Gleevec continues to work its miracles and pray that it continues...
