Hi MacKenzie,

I live in Iowa and go to MD Cancer Center in Houston TX for treatment.

I started out being treated in Iowa on Gleevec, but after I lost resistance, I

was referred to Mayo in MN then to MDACC in TX.  My other options were a

transplant but the drs wanted me to visit MDACC first and I have been going back

regularly ever since avoiding a transplant, thus far.  I do have two siblings

that are 10/10 match so I am very thankful.

The trial I am in now is the AP24534. Im only taking 15mg as the others like

Beth, Bobby, and Hans are taking a larger dosage.  My platelets just can't take

the larger dose. Hopefully some day they will.

Any other questions? Please ask. It may take me awhile to get back to you, but

if you email me privately it will be sooner.

God Bless,

Jackie S.

Dear All,

My father has Diagonsed with CML on 3 months back, since

then he is on ‘Gleevec 400Mg’ . His WBC (white

blood cell) count has been comes to normal ever since he started Gleevec and we

used to do blood examination every week

and inform the report to the doctor. Last week when we did blood

examination, found that WBC count has been come down to 3900. Below

Normal. (Normal is 4500 – 11,000).

Platelet count and Haemoglobin is

normal. Doctor reduced the Gleevec to 300mg last week. But when we examined

yesterday the WBC count

has been again came down to 3600. When I asked the doctor he said, coz of age

ther

might be some limitations and he cannot reduce from 300mg Gleevc coz it will not

give any progress in

CML. Dr found that he has congestion in

chest and gave one cough syrup and asked to wear mask and avoid visting public

places and restricted visitors. He is a

heart patient too and gone through angioplasty 7 years back. Today he was

saying he has pain from the left side of chest and its not from the center of

the heart area. Doctor saying its because of muscle cramp and no need to worry.

Has anyone had this WBC count drastic come down occurred? And

what are the precaustions we need to take care. I heard that if WBC is low

there are more chances to effect neumonia and other diseases.

Your opions will be highy supportive.

Regards,

Jamy
