Guest guest
a dry climate is better. when the humidy is high it effects R.A.... so i'd think las vegas would be better. Guest guest
Hi Mike: Thanks for your response. Yeah, as soon as we get strightened out here, I believe we're moving to LV. I just want to swim every day, and enjoy the sunshine. I'm getting so bad I'm having serious mobility problems and LOTS of pain. Guest guest
Welcome, Elle! I must cast my vote for Las Vegas - but for reasons other than those having to do with RA or other rheumatic diseases, LOL. Baby needs a new pair of shoes! I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Too wet or too dry might be bad, but frequent changes in barometric pressure are definitely bad. Cold weather usually has low humidity and if it gets too low, that's bad - but too much humidity can also be bad. ----- Original Message ----- From: Elle Mathews Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Saturday, January 31, 2004 9:40 PM Subject: Best climate Hi: I'm new to the group. Guest guest
HI Elle: From my experience, I feel no difference because of weather. But then I live in LA where there aren't too many drastic swings in either temperature or humidity. I always thought people went to the desert for their arthritis - but maybe that's just an old wives' tale. gloria
Guest guest
Hi Elle, I think you'll find as many opinions about the effect of climate on RA as you will the effect of diet or any of a number of medications or home remedies. I've had RA for over 5 years and live near Portland Oregon - certainly not a dry climate for much of the year! I don't notice that the dampness bothers me as much as changes in barometric pressure (I can tell when a storm system is moving in). I find that for me other things impact my RA a lot more - particularly stress and / or fatigue. One thing to think about with moving to find a better climare for your RA is that you want to live somewhere that you can be active and up and about. I lived in Phoenix for several years (climate similar to Vegas) and for 4 - 5 months of the year it's too hot to go outside and do anything, so you end up hibernating inside. I found it difficult to motivate myself to get outside and move around. It was in my pre-RA days, but something to consider. Also, one of the things that I find helpful is to have a support system of family and friends around me. Not to help out physically as much as to provide moral support. If you decide to pick up and move to a 'better climate' you may find that you lose as much in one way as you gain in another........ Sorry for rambling so much - hope it helps.
