stuff and doing ok but her lungs keep setting her back.

If the lungs continue to fill, and it happens frequently, it is not advisable

to continually drain the lungs. In doing so, the person loses a lot of

protein. You might want to speak to her pulmonologist about doing a

pleurodesis,

where they will insert chest tubes to drain, then inject some sterile talc, and

seal the lung. It can be very helpful in terms of reducing shortness of

breath, and providing comfort.

Wow Lynda . . .

When you said your lung was filling with liquid, the first thing that crossed my mind was pneumonia! . . . Not a good thing, but considering the other possiblitities, it's something to be thankful for!

Just a few more days and you should be through this! . .

Hugs and prayers,

Rogene

Rogene,

Pray that it is that and not something more serious. Only an

analysis of the fluid will answer that. I have a disc of the x-ray

pics and it looks pretty bad, part of one lung is hidden. I hope it

is something not too serious.

Got back early, they took well over a liter of fluid out of my

pleural cavity. I definitely can breathe better. It was not much

fun, but it could have been worse.

I do have cancer. Don't know what type or if it is a treatable or

not-treatable type. Won't know until Wed. afternoon. I have a

lesion in my liver and some nodules in my lung. Please pray it is

the treatable kind.

I cancelled my ticket to Hawaii for tomorrow. Won't be going

anywhere any time soon.

Hi Lynda,

I am so sorry to hear of your news. Please know that you have my

prayers! I don't know what type of treatment you had in mind, but I

just wanted to throw this idea out here. Several months ago when I

first became ill, my husband and I came across this really

interesting video. http://www.gerson.org/videos/default.asp

Then a few months later my colon hydrotherapist said she had a friend

who had prostate cancer who did Gerson Therapy and his PSA went down

within a month and that when he went off the therapy the PSA went

back up sky high. So he went back on Gerson and recovered. Hang in

there and let us know what the doctor says. Love, PH

Lynda- I am so sorry to hear about this, I know there are no words I

could say to comfort you right now. Just know that you are in my

thoughts and prayers. We will all be awaiting the news on Wednesday.

Lynda,

I'm so shocked to hear you have cancer! I'm so praying that this is

benign, whatever it is, and that you can just treat it and be done

with it. I'm sorry to hear this, and will be waiting to hear what's

going on Wednesday.

Dear Jamy,

If your father's doctor is not a specialist, you need to have him see one.

What I am hearing does not bode well with me, as I have gone through a lot of

trials and transitions.

He could have either pleural effusions or pleurisy if he has chest pain, even

pneumonia. He needs to have an x-ray of his lungs. Do not put this off. Just

cutting back on the dosage could be a mistake and your doctor needs to have good

reason to take that position. Has his doctor done a test to see what his serum

level is before taking him off or lowering his meds?

Jamy, all of my counts are suppressed and low. My WBC stays below 3 or 4

and my RBC stays around 2.4. This is not bad in itself. I am now transfusion

dependent because of low hemoglobin counts. When the platelets go below 50,000,

then the doctor would have reason to give him a vacation. There are measures to

be taken for almost everything you mentioned. If his platelets drop too low,

they can infuse him with platelets. Because of his other issues, he needs to

see someone who knows more about CML and how the drugs work in tandem. I have

known this for some time, but I just heard it on TV that if you take a lot of

drugs, you need to bring a list to the drug store and ask of there are any drugs

in the group that would have some contraindications. You can also go to

www.drugstore.com and put in all of his meds and see if there are in in this

class.

This is what I can offer you from my own experience. If I had stayed with

my original doctor of over 14 years ago and listened to him, I would be dead. I

have heard so many doctors say they were trained at MDACC. We don't really know

how long they were there and what did they learn? He never treated me the same

way they treat me at MDACC, there is no comparison.

Hands & hearts,

Lottie Duthu
