Guest guest
, I've got no advice pneumovax ?? So...yesterday, all 3 of my PID kids got the pneumovax, bc their dr wants to check the polysaccaride thing. I know what I mean:) but am too tired to say it right. Savannah was complaining yesterday evening that her arm hurt where the shot went in, but the other kids complained a little bit, too, and I gave them all motrin and ice packs. About 2 am, Savannah woke up sobbing about her arm. She does tend to be very sensitive, so I gave her more motrin and let her use the heating pad on it for a little bit, she fell back asleep. Then back up to cry. And back asleep. We did this all night. This morning she had no temp. She would not get up for school, or eat, or anything, just kept saying her arm hurt. She also was saying her throat hurt/felt very dry, and had started a cough. She slept most of the morning. At twelve, she got up and dressed, ate some soup, and went to school for about 3 hrs. I checked her temp before she went to school, and it was normal. She was still complaining quite a lot after school(330), so I checked her temp again, it was just about 99. DH and I HAD to go out to buy a mattress, our waterbed burst this week, and we've been taking turns sleeping on the couch. I left the kids with my mom so I didnt have to drag them thru the mattress store. I left at about 430, and checked her temp, at that time, it was 100. I told my mom she could have another motrin around five. All this time, she is getting more and more upset about her arm....just air blowing by it makes her scream. Mom gave the motrin at 5, then called me at the store at a little after 6 to tell me she just took her temp, bc she looked really red kept crying....and it was 102. I left and went to pick them up, Savannah is acting almost hysterical, saying she is cold, help mom, my arm, my throat, help, mommy, etc. I felt like even with the motrin, her temp was moving up awfully fast, so I ran her to the after hours clinic, where her temp was 103.5 and the dr told me that some kids run a little temp after a shot(duh), of course, if she acts like she cant breathe in the night, go to the ER, and hey, I'll give her some augmentin since her throat hurts, but I dont think its an infection(????) and oh, as soon as you wake up in the morning, call whatever dr gave her the shot....he also said her heart was racing, at 110 per minute. Other than all that, she seems fine. She reacted similarly to the first flu shot she ever had, yrs ago, and we put that down to her egg allergy, and she hasnt had one since. She is no longer allergic to egg, and the pnuemovax isnt grown in egg li ke the flu shot......so it seems like maybe she is reacting to something else in the shots? Does this seem like a normal reaction to pneumovax? am I overreacting? now Im home alone with her(and the other 3), and Im feeling really uncomfortable about this. valarie mom to 3 w/cvid

Guest guest
When was her last pnumovax? This is a common reaction when they get them more often then every 5 years or so, at least that's what we were told. Hope it starts feeling better soon. pneumovax ?? > So...yesterday, all 3 of my PID kids got the pneumovax, bc their dr > wants to check the polysaccaride thing. Guest guest
I'd say watch her. Listen that her throat doesn't close up and report it to the administering doc and the pneumovax company tomorrow. If it were Macey and the fever cleared the next day then I would say it was a reaction. If she carried fever over the weekend then I'd say it was an infection/viral thing and treat that. Either way the fevers no fun. Ursula - mom to (16) and Macey (13,CVID)

Guest guest
--- Ive been watching and Im thinking its both. Her arm still hurts like crazy, but the fever is coming down. BUT.....her throat still hurts, and overnight her sinuses have become crazy congested, she just woke up begging for a sinus rinse(which she HATES) so I know her sinuses must hurt a lot. Im wondering if maybe she was coming down with something that just wasnt obvious at the time we gave the shot......and thats why she is having such a hard time, fighting both things at once. Hows Macey since her surgery? is she feeling better? valarie mom to 3 w/cvid In , Ursula Holleman <uahollem@...> wrote: > > > I'd say watch her. Guest guest
I had a reaction to the pneumovax shot but not exactly like that. My arm swelled and was really red and hard, hurt so bad and I can appreciate the comment of the air hitting it hurt. We talked to the immunologist because I only made 3 titers and he would have re-vax but he said that type of a reaction is more of an allergic type and it isn't safe to do so, so we weren't able to. I hope she is feeling better soon. Were you able to contact the immuno. Ours said if we would have called immediately he could have given me something for the reaction. Amy, mom to Nick, 5, CVID. Guest guest
---Im sorry you went thru this.....how long did it last, do you remember? Her fever went all the way back to normal this morning, and by 12 she was right back up to 102. The arm she got the shot in is about an inch and a 1/2 bigger than the other one. I did call the ID's office, at like, 830 this morning, and am still waiting for a callback....usually he calls me right back so he must be tied up in clinic or something. Savannah says...... " call Dr. W and tell him I said to call me in a pill to fix this " lol:) I was concerned bc for a couple hrs she was really complaining of her back hurting a lot. Im still alternating tylenol and motrin......what else did they have you do? She had a similar reaction to the flu shot, the one time she got it, and we all thought it was bc of the egg(she had egg allergy). That was about 4 yrs ago. This is the only other vaccination she has gotten since then, and its the same reaction, just worse.....so Im thinking she must be allergic to something else in the shots. We were going to do the flu shot for her this yr, bc she has outgrown her egg allergy, but Ive decided not to, after this. She is so miserable. valarie In , " Amy " <mom2lilnick@...> wrote: > > I had a reaction to the pneumovax shot but not exactly like that. Guest guest
I'm hoping this is all resolved by the time I write this, but I would *absolutely* take her to the ER--it sounds like a reaction, and she probably needs benadryl, etc, though given the pain and other symptoms she may need to be monitored closely-- In , " osdbmom " <osdbmom@...> wrote: > > ---Im sorry you went thru this.....how long did it last, do you > remember? Guest guest
---Hi Barbie...... oh, yeah, we will NEVER do this one with her again!! This has been awful. Her arm has finally started to go down.......its been a good inch and a half bigger than the other one since Thursday. Her fever finally came down yesterday....she'd been running at least 102.5 since Thursday. Yesterday we did a sinus rinse, bc she was complaining of pain there.....and OMG!! wow, that was a whole lot of nasty!!! and her throat is still so sore she wont eat much, but she is drinking. She's still really tired out and grumpy. So it looks like a really nasty sinus infection is going on, too. She will get her IG back in a couple more weeks.....I will be so glad. Her asthma's all kicked up, too. Amazing, since 3 different drs looked her all over on Wed!! and there were no signs of sickness. I called our ID office by 8 am on Friday. Our ID ALWAYS has called me back in about an hr, so I kept waiting, thinking....he must have an emergency, he'll call. I called again later in the day.....and the nurse was like, Dr B didnt call you back? OH NO!! I'll call him, wait by the phone(like Id left it all day?lol) She called me back at 445pm......our dr(Dr W) is out of town......Dr B is covering.....Dr B says, he cant tell you anything w/o looking at her....should probably have taken her to the PCP--who of course is now closed for the weekend. He said just keep doing what i was doing.....augmentin, motrin, tylenol, keep her drinking. ggrrr. If I had known to begin with that morning that Dr W was out of town, I WOULD have taken her to PCP. Why dont they just tell me that to begin with? The only other concern I have right now, is that while the swelling has gone down, the redness keeps spreading. Friday I measured it at 3x2, today, 4xalmost3. Its also still, really, really sore. If everything else is getting better, Im not sure why the redness keeps spreading? I was thinking I'll try benedryl and see if that helps...if not, guess we'll be at PCP tomorrow. How is Lucas doing? and DD and baby? valarie In , Barbara Jimenez <mother5590@...> wrote: > > Valarie. Lucas had the same reaction to DTAP and Polio that were given together when he was 2. Scared me to death. We ended up back in the ER the next day9 18 hrs later.,with a temp of 105. His blood work shifted in that 24 hours and they told me he had a severe ear infection as well as he has a left shift in his differential . Meaning his bloodwork showed he was fighting an infection. They gave him IV antx in the ER and he got better. He was totally lethargic and would not move his arm. I was angry with myself since I had not given his vaccines and let the Dr.s bully me into giving the DtAP. I would say that the only other vaccines he has had is the Pnuemovaccine and he has had it 3 times with NO problems. So sorry she is feeling so bad. > > BARBIE > > > > > ________________________________ > From: osdbmom <osdbmom@...> > > Sent: Friday, November 21, 2008 5:39:53 AM > Subject: Re: pneumovax ?? > > > --- Ive been watching and Im thinking its both. Guest guest
we are all in Seattle right now. We had a visit planned months ago so decided to go anyway. Hoping that being with family that it will help. Lucas is OK but mental health wise quiet unstable. It was a VERY disappointing dealing with healthcare in Tulsa. I will be starting the selling process when I get back but it is a horrible time to have to do so. I just have to believe God has a plan and we can do what needs to happen. I am so sorry your daughter has had such a rough time. I would encourage to take a pen and mark the edges so that you can watch for a secondary cellulitis from the injection. She is definatelly allergic to something in it. I would say it is probably a preservative. Benadryl may help or zyrtec may also help and not make her as sleepy. YES and you have to ask ask ask to find out what is going on in these drs offices these days. It is appalling to see what does not happen!!!  BARBIE ________________________________ From: osdbmom <osdbmom@...> Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2008 7:51:38 AM Subject: Re: pneumovax ?? ---Hi Barbie...... oh, yeah, we will NEVER do this one with her again!! I'll call him, wait by the phone(like Id left it all day?lol) She called me back at 445pm......our dr(Dr W) is out of town......Dr B is covering.... .Dr B says, he cant tell you anything w/o looking at her....should probably have taken her to the PCP--who of course is now closed for the weekend. He said just keep doing what i was doing.....augmentin , motrin, tylenol, keep her drinking. How is Lucas doing? and DD and baby? valarie In groups (DOT) com, Barbara Jimenez <mother5590@ ...> wrote: > > Valarie. > > BARBIE > > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > From: osdbmom <osdbmom@... > > groups (DOT) com > Sent: Friday, November 21, 2008 5:39:53 AM > Subject: Re: pneumovax ?? > > > --- Ive been watching and Im thinking its both.
