Are you sure you are talking about pcr and not another blood count, perhaps ANC, absolute neutrophil count? That is not supposed to go way low, below 1.00, but the lower the pcr, the better for the patient. All these labs and their meaning are very confusing, but there are experts here that can ease your mind. Maybe you could post her last labs? Guest guest
Hi , I think you and your daughter may have misunderstood your doctor. A PCR shows the percentage of leukemic cells in your marrow, or blood, and the lower the number, the fewer cells there are. for instance, when I entered the trial I am in I began with a PCR of 5.69. It went from there to 0.017, to 0.03. They are terrific numbers, as they are way down from 5.69. My last labs were, white blood count - 6.6; hemoglobin - 10.6, hematocrit 31.9; platelet count 179, Absolute Neutrophil Count - 4.8. These counts are normal for me, and I would think normal for the average person with CML, on Gleevec, or Sprycel or whatever they are taking. The PCR is taken from the bone marrow, or from the blood, and believe me, you want this number to be LOW as possible, you do not want it to go up. I am sure others could explain this to you better than me, and they will chip in here and advise you. This is truly a learning experience, and the more people that can give you their advice or experiences, the better. Good luck, Bobby a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.017 11/2009 PCR 0.034 #840 Zavie's Zero Club > > > >> >> OK, I talked to my trial nurse today.
