Guest guest
Hi Jeaney: You better recheck what number the doctor is referring to. As Zavie and others have said, you want the PCR to read 0.0000. I think it might be another figure that you are mxed up about. Just ask them to explain it clearly to you, and always get a copy of any blood work or test that any doctor does. Keep your own file. Hope your daughter is doing well. A. > >> > >> OK, I talked to my trial nurse today. My marrow pcr is 0.06. So it has gone slightly up again. But she said the pcr of the blood is.0000. I am happy as long as I am ccr, but am curious as to the difference in the two. Any help there? She said the fish has not come back yet, and was surprised when I told her I heard some drs don't even do fish anymore. Was I wrong? > >> I am at this moment waiting the arrival of my second great grand son. I have many step great grand children, but only one other blood great grand child. Guest guest
Hi Jeanny I agree with other responders to your post. PCR is a very sensitive test that looks to see how much of the leukaemia there is. You want it to be as low as possible, preferably zero. In my case, it started at 83.0 before treatment, then went to 3.6, then 0.06 and now it is 0.000. Which is what everyone wants to see. I won't speculate on what the 3 number is but it sounds like a primary blood count to me. It could be WBC (your white blood count the lower end of which I think is considered to be 3 by some labs at least) - this is the one that is usually far too high (in the 100s) when diagnosed. It can drop below the lower end of normal on treatment - mine got close - although it typically recovers. Your doctor can advise you better than I but my immediate reaction is not to worry. 2.7 is close to 3 and I'm told that what really matters is your absolute neutrophil count, which is normally above 2 but they don't worry until it is below 1 (quite a few CML patients on Gleevec have neutrophil counts between 1 and 2: mine went below 2 at first then recovered and is fine now). Bottom line - this doesn't sound like PCR at all but also doesn't seem too worrying at first sight. Best speak to your daughter's doctor again though. ________________________________ From: jeanny forest <jeanny-f@...> " " < > Sent: Thu, March 4, 2010 1:42:01 AM Subject: RE: [ ] Re: pcr, ineed answers to, i did a mistake, sorry sorry about that,, my daughter is here with me, and she said i did a mistake, it was 2.7 and it is supose to be a 3 or more, and he said he was worried about that, i really dont understand From: rcd1929@... Are you sure you are talking about pcr and not another blood count, perhaps ANC, absolute neutrophil count? That is not supposed to go way low, below 1.00, but the lower the pcr, the better for the patient. All these labs and their meaning are very confusing, but there are experts here that can ease your mind. Maybe you could post her last labs? I think both you and your daughter should spend a bit more time talking to the doctor, or his nurse....and they should explain things to you so you understand. You have a right to expect that. You need to have a good working relationship with her doctor. I do not remember how old your daughter is (I think she is independent?)......so she could also do this alone, but she needs to understand all the counts well enough so that she can explain them to you. If you can also go to her appointments, then the doctor can explain to both of you. You don't want to be always in the dark about what the numbers mean. This is what I would suggest. C.
