I am a 1A also, my biopsy showed beginning stages of cirrhosis. My VL was 6.2 million when I started tx 4 weeks ago. My platelets are low, he said he was going to keep an eye on that. My ALT is 69, my AST is 65. Everything else is normal.

Hello gang!

Sorry I have been out of touch for the last 2 weeks, so busy, fatigued, and frustrated with my insurance. I did my 4th shot on Friday, it went good, had more energy this weekend than last. My 3rd shot I was completely awake for. I had just took my shot and my friends bf was in a car accident (he is fine, some glass in his head) and she wanted me to sit up Shock Trama with her. So for the first time in 4 shots I was awake for the sides and the only thing I experienced was aches, little chills (it was cold in that hospital..lol) and a little headache. Wasn't so bad at all, I was so scared it was going to be worse, thankful it wasn't. Friday I was informed that I can no longer see my current gastro because Kaiser now has a gastro doctor. I can't get an appt for a month and this wednesday was my 4th week check up, I am so mad. I fussed at my primary care doctor to try to get me 1 more referral so I can see him wed, she will let me know by tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed!! Will update ya on my blood work if I get to see him.

For the newbies, below is my story. Welcome to the group, everyone is so supportive here!!

I am 47 years old and was diagnosed last year after test results showed my then 17 year old daughter tested positive for the Hep C virus. Her doctor said I should be tested to rule out that she had gotten it from me. My tests also came back positive for the virus, I was in total shock when I learned the news that my daughter was positive for the Hep C virus, then to find out that I was the one who gave it to her is beyond comprehension. I felt like I was punched in the face. Sadly, I know how I contacted it, for about 5 years in the early 80's I experimented with IV drug use. When I married in the late 80's and decided to have children, I told my OB of what I did and asked him to test me to make sure I didn't have HIV or anything else related to IV drug use. Happily I was told I didn't have HIV, and that I was in great health. Sadly I wasn't tested for Hepatitis. I went on to have 2 children, my son (who is older) and my husband have not been tested yet. My son doesn't have health insurance at the moment and I don't want this to be considered as a pre-existing condition for when he does get it so he is waiting to get tested. My husband for whatever reason won't go get tested. He also dabbled with drug use in the early 80's and may very well have it also. My daughter and I have both started seeing a gastro doctor, I began tx 4 weeks ago, and have been having minimal sides thankfully. We both are genotype 1a. I had a liver biopsy in July, to see what the damage is to my liver. It came back the beginning stages of cirrhosis, all my other blood tests are in the normal range. I am not experiencing any symptoms right now, other than some fatigue. If any of you have any reason to believe you may have been exposed to HCV, please go get tested as soon as possible. If you are positive, please get your children tested also. The sooner you find out the better your chances are of ridding your body of it before it has a chance to kill your liver! If you test negative, be thankful for you are very lucky!

BethYou are correct about your assessment of doing the new combo. It's simply an additional pill for several weeks; but, the interferon and riba is still the main course. However, I have to think that there could be a possibility that trying tx again when the trio gets to the market may still work. The only reason that I say this, is because off the top of my head, I could honestly tell you that I did not experience even one of the sides that I had on my first tx, this last time around. However, I did not experience great variations in the crucial blood work during either treatment.Gloria type 1A, I am trying to remember is yours 2b? Therefore we can see that even the ALT and AST's can bounce up and down. Please remember that the VL means very little and is just a number that they watch while we are on tx. The truth and nothing but the truth is in the liver biopsy.I was just having a look at my chart of when I started out in 2004. My ALT was 142 and I believe that my VL back then was around the 3 mil mark. That ALT dropped to within the normal parameters within a month. However, I still did not attain a sustained viral response. Then, in 2009 both my ALT and my AST were low enough that if I had been just starting out, they would not have alarmed any Gastro etc. However, the biopsy came back as early stage cirrhosis.I don't believe that the clinic did the

whole round of tests at the 6 mos post period. They only got the VL as unreadable still. So, I'm going to ask my Dr. to send me for the liver enzyme tests just to see where they sit at say 9 mos post.Gloria

My vl jumped to 2.8 mil after tx was stopped so depressing. On 2/20/10 my alt was 60 and my ast was 52; last Feb 09 alt 88 and ast 75.

Hey Cheryl,Believe it or not, that's about half of the water you should be drinking. Maybe even a little less than half. I'd double up and also count juices, gatorade and caffiene free tea in your liquid intake. Rule of thumb is when you think you're drinking enough, add more. Also if you're not getting up to hit the bathroom at least twice during the night, you need more.Try not to drown...
