Guest guest
I would take him. He could be " leaking " into the tissue around the port. This can be serious. Blake had this happen when the nurse did not get the needle in all of the way. Blake looked like he had size DD breasts. it was very painful. Once he was seen & it was determined that it was leaking, they took the port out & replaced it & put him on IV antibiotics for a week. I was told it was too dangerous to leave in & could cause a whole new set of problems we did not want to touch!!! Date: Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 7:23 PM Have any of you whose children have or have had ports experienced a port " leaking " We are having issues with swelling at his port site that is slightly increasing during the infusions, but no pain. Last infusion it was quite swollen after the infusion ended but I also think he had an allergic reaction to the Emla. So this time we are using LMX, and it still more swollen compared to when we started. (I'm doing his infusion at home as I type) I called our ped and she said that if it continues to swell to take him to the ER to rule out " leaking " . I hate going to the ER's and want to avoid it at all costs. If he was having ANY pain I would take him in right away. Any thoughts?? Thanks gals! Guest guest
... thanks for the reply... He wasn't near as swollen as before, just " puffy " . That said, i did push for them to schedule a dye stduy to make sure the port is still fully functional. So hopefully that will be done soon! Thanks so mcuh, and luckily for us it was a quiet night. Hope Blake improves, as I dont have any suggestions on your end, but I will keep him in our prayers!
