Doing J's SCIG tonight-- and we have a problem that we've not encountered.

Got the first line in w/o a problem. Second line went in and he was

screaming in pain-saying it was an 8 or 9 and he begged me to take it out.

I wanted a few seconds to see if the pain would subside & pulled the line

when it did not. He says the spot still hurts---

The problem is that the stupid connectors are STUCK! I cannot disconnect

the needle line from the rest of the hook up. The only way to change out

the line now would be to remove the second needle set and start over.

Obviously when doing line changes, we have to use aseptic technique, so we

cannot use any " tools " to get the line free.. (Don't have sterile pliers-I

wouldn't; trust myself to do that!)

SO-anyone ever run across this before? He gets 2.5 grams/25ml and we infuse

into 2 sites. The max we've been told we can do it 15 ml per site. The

IgG is good for several hours in the syringe, right? Is there any way

that I could infuse 15ml into the one site and then shut it down for a while

and infuse the rest? I suppose I could then attach a new needle set to

that side once done..

Thinking as I type... back to see if I can get the line unstuck.we're

infusing into the one side right now. And it isn't aseptic to use your

teeth, right? <note sarcasm>

Thanks. we got it all worked out. Then he was holding his bunny and not

paying attention..and bunny chewed through a line!

What a day! Luckily it was on the site that had been running while we were

trying to figure it all out.so we just shut it down.

Hi Patti!!!

Blake has done this a couple of times. He uses 4 sites(13.5grams....41.5 cc

per syringe)

We usually just stop the one he tells hurts. If you can't get it off, just

remove the whole set, The medicine as we were told last night, if the

syringe is capped & left out it is good for 2 days. Capped & refrigerated, 4

days.

The reason we stopped last night......the pump just refused to push the IgG

in!!!! We started at 5pm. at 9 I had to call the infusion company with the

issue. That was 4 hrs. Do you know how much infused? 1cc in 4 hrs!!! I was

very frustrated & threatened to go back to IVIG if they did not provide a

new pump. We got answers & the pharmacist is the one who told me the IgG has

enough stability to last even a week in the syringe in the refrigerator!!!!

Well that all took place after I asked everyone on SC how their pump was

working for them. Last night was my last straw before Blake winds up

throwing the whole thing out of the window!!!!

Today we received a call telling us that they " just happened " to get a brand

new Graseby M16 Pump in & did we want to have first dibs......duh...what

planet would I have come from if i said NO???

The pharmacist also told that EVERYONE using the ESP60 had problems & they

were UN aware that there was one " portable " enough to even place it in their

pocket (with out the plastic casing that is!!) But we will use the fanny

pack to go to grandparents!!!!

When called this afternoon, we were told they were also getting a couple of

the Freedom 60 & will send one to try & we can decide which one we wuold

like to keep using.

Our homehealth nurse will be here tomorrow to check Blake out. Right now, he

has " a goopy roof top & a clogged ear....his words....he also told his PCA &

myself that he feels as if his Second tongue was in the way & could not

move....in other words, MAJOR sinus infection & drainage!!! Oh Bother, this

means he wil have to have an IV placed tomorrow as well so we can do his

antibiotcs!!!

Gotta run, hope this answered your questions about the IgG

Well I would not tell it until now but we had a puppy go through one and a

kitten pull one out. And I had put them out of the room in both cases they snuck

back in. I just clamped off the site. Cleaned everything with alcohol and then

restarted it. the most important thing is to not panic. Most things work out

with a calm head. Glad you got it.
