Hi Annie: Try using chilled witch hazel on cotton pads placed over the eyes for 10-15 minutes. Also helpful: cucumber slices and grated raw potato applied as a poultice. Guest guest
I can't really tell you what to do, but I know that I did horrible on Synthroid. Guest guest
It may be that you are now hypo. Puffy eyes is a symptom of hypothyroidism. I also did not like synthroid. I am now taking levoxyl but the jury is still out.....not sure how I am doing.....get my blood test in a couple of weeks. Judging from my puffy face.....not working. Yes, it can make you feel at your wits end. Have you had a tsh to see where your at since you went off your meds. I would start there before going back on it. Then you may know what dose you need. Guest guest
My experience of doctors has not been great. My GP is a very good doctor and a good listener but in no way an expert in endocrinology. In the five years I have had this awful condition I have seen, in all, two hospital consultants and a general physician open to alternative treatments. So far none of them have really helped. The last hospital consultant I seen told me that despite the fact I had been overdosing on synthetic t3 and my TSH was virtually non existent, none of my symptoms were physical. My goitre was a " bit enlarged " but nothing to worry about, I had not done any real harm to myself. He told me I was suffering from anxiety and depression and the only treatment that mattered for me at the moment was a long term course of ssri's! He also recommended diazampam for a few weeks. He was totally dismissive of any treatment other than levothyroxine for my thyroid and told me to forget T3 altogether (the hospital will not do the blood tests anyway) go back on the levothyroxine and keep taking the anti depressants indefinitely. Tell me what exactly is competent professional advice because believe me if I could get it I would not be on the internet at all! > > Getting medical advice from unknown people over the internet is a risky > process. > > IMHO you need COMPETENT professional advice. > > > > > > > Puffy eyes > > <hypothyroidism/message/27023;_ylc=X3oDM TJxdm1pMzFmBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzE0NTY2NARncnBzcElkAzE3MDkyNTEwODI EbXNnSWQDMjcwMjMEc2VjA2Rtc2cEc2xrA3Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTE3MjE0MjYxNQ--> > > > > > > > > Posted by: " bridan90 " bridan90@... > > <mailto:bridan90@...?Subject=%20Re%3APuffy%20eyes> > > bridan90 <bridan90> > > > > > > Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:22 am (PST) > > > > I have not taken thyroid medication for two weeks now. Guest guest
I think you would fair well to find someone who specializes in treating hormone imbalances naturally. I would recommend you visit http://www.drhotze.com/EN/index.html and read as much as you can on low thyroid. He also has a great book called " Hormones, Health and Happiness. You can also visit our site at www.hormonephysicians.com and watch 1 of 20 videos on hormone imbalances. Guest guest
Hi, I have had hypothyroid since my twenties. I took Thyrolar all that time. I never had puffy eyes, until the endo decided to change my medication to see if it was causing a skin condition I have. Now, I have puffy eyes. I went back to my doctor, he had my blood checked and the Levothyroxine has kicked me over into hyperthyroid. Levothyroxine is the generic for Synthroid and Levoxyl, so it's all the same thing. Thyrolar is a combination T3/T4 drug, and I never had problems with it. Right now I understand that it is on back order. I hope they will have it up and distributed by the middle of March, which is how long I have pills for. Roni > > I have not taken thyroid medication for two weeks now. Guest guest
Synthroid is different from Levoxyl in that Synthroid contains sulfites as a preservative. Levoxyl does not contain sulfites. Found this out after I was very puffy using synthroid. I called abbott labs and they told me .05mg and .075 mg has 2.9 mg of sulfites per pill. For those of us sensitive to sulfites it can be a problem. Venizia -- In hypothyroidism , " matchermaam " <matchermaam@...> wrote: > > > Hi, > > I have had hypothyroid since my twenties. Guest guest
Some people are particularly sensitive to iodine while others can tolerate many times the RDA [or whatever it's called]. I have an honest fear that someone who cannot tolerate iodine will take the level of dosage you keep recommending and die. I surely hope not... We are all different. Guest guest
That's why COMPETENT was all caps. None the less, any doctor should be able give you better advice than someone who has never seen you or examined you. But many here report less than optimum results with a whole list of doctors. Still, it's very risky to take advice over the internet when your life is at stake. Guest guest
I ABSOLUTELY agree about the lack of competent professional advice!!! It's a fight to get healthy and stay healthy and the doctor's unless your case is an easy one, really just want to push the Levothyroxine. My doctor doesn't like Armour because it comes from a pig. He is referring me to an endocrinologist because I do too much reading and I am standing up for myself. Re: Re:Puffy eyes Yes, I agree with you!! Guest guest
Hi, Lots of doctors have trouble with people who read and stand up for themselves. However, I think it is getting more common, and eventually (can't wait till then)it will be expected. Roni P.S. to the person who said she had freezing cold hands and feet. The same thing happened to me on Levothyroxine, along with other bad feelings of widespread pain, like nothing I have ever encountered, along with the puffy eyes. Guest guest
I just stopped a week ago from taking my levothyroxine because I was having widespread pain. It was in my lower back, neck, hands, feet, legs... One day my legs felt sore and achey as though I had worked out new muscles the day before, which I hadn't. I was hurting bad. I told my chiropractor, who always asks on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst imaginable) what is your pain, I told her it was at a 7 or 8. My pain seems to be decreasing, with only an ocassional pain when I pick something up. I'd like to hear more about the pain you were experiencing before you stopped the meds. Re: Re:Puffy eyes Hi, Lots of doctors have trouble with people who read and stand up for themselves. Guest guest
There seems to be no end of complications when the thyroid stops doing its job. No one ever prepares you for it, you just get told to take this pill and it will all go away and maybe for some folk it does but what about those of us who continue to suffer? According to the medical profession there must be either some other physical cause for your symptoms or your more than likely just a hypochondriac because the blood tests are fine and the tablets have always worked before for their other patients. Why should you be any different? It may well be a dodgy business taking advice from strangers over the internet but when so called professionals close their eyes and their minds what else can you do? I have now discovered that I am hypertensive. For the first time in my entire life I have high blood pressure. Another problem to add to the list, high cholesterol, early menopause, fatigue, muscle cramps, depression edema and sore, puffy eyes that give me sleepless nights. I'm on so many tablets now that I have started to rattle when I so much as move. > > > Hi > > > > I do not understand why your doctor has any > > problem with the fact that Armour comes from a pig. > > Also standing up for yourself is your RIGHT. > > > > Kind reagrds > > Suzanne > > > > > > __________________________________________________________ > Finding fabulous fares is fun. > Let FareChase search your favorite travel sites to find flight and hotel bargains. > http://farechase./promo-generic-14795097 > > > ______________________________________________________________________ __ > Check out the new AOL. Guest guest
I didn't stop the meds completely, I just stopped taking the levothyroxine,(which, by the way is the generic form or Levoxyl and Synthroid) so basically it is the same. What I am taking instead is Thyrolar, a medication I have been taking since my 20s, and I'm starting to feel better on this. I know many people who had bad experiences from Synthroid and it's generic levothyroxine, including my mother, and now me. Guest guest
After reading your last posting, I looked up side affects of levothyroxine. I did stop taking this about a week ago and about 90% of the pain I was experiencing has gone away. Here is what I found: Levothyroxine Side Effects / Hypersensitivity Reactions (Note: the reviewers believed these reactions are probably due to dyes or tablet constituents) Urticaria (hives) Pruritis (itchiness) Skin rash Flushing Angioedema (swelling of the hands, feet, trunk, face, abdomen and airways) Abdominal pain Nausea Vomiting Diarrhea Fever Arthralgia (joint pain and aches) Wheezing I was experiencing the diarrhea, joint pain and aches and the wheezing was just beginning. Guest guest
Drink lots of water, at least 4 litres a day, fill up large bottles and drink because cups and small glasses are no use. Carry the large bottle and drink as I had puffy eyes all the time and they slowly disappeared after drinking more water and cutting back on caffeine drinks.
