Guest guest
Andy recommends ADP Emulsified Oil of Oregano, by Biotics Research Corporation. I bought Soloray 150 mg gel caps in a base of extra virgin olive oil w cavacrol, thymol, & other volativle compounds. What does that mean & is it safe for an adult? Guest guest
Yes Ma'am! For me, taking them daily kept colds and flus away for 2 entire seasons. This year, I didn't take them. Guess who had a bad cold with a resulting sinus and ear infection this winter? Moi. Use them if you can, everybody! They aren't that great at taking away the bugs once I get them, but seem better at keeping me from getting sick in the first place. Guest guest
After posting my experience with c-difficile, I received an email from someone who suggested Oregamax for treatment. I was interested, so I looked up several articles on medicinal oregeno. I like to separate the facts from the commercials, so I chose to see how many things I could find on it. I know you are all familiar with antioxidants and its properties to kill off free radicals that cause cancer, but this herb has other properties as well, and here is what I found: " Oregano oil contains four main groups of chemicals that contribute to its potent healing powers. Phenols, such as carvacrol and thymol, act as antiseptics and antioxidants, while terpenes, which include pinene and terpinene, exhibit antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties. Linalool and bonreol are two long-chain alcohols found in oregano oil, which add to the antiviral and antiseptic qualities. Esters are potent antifungal agents. Two that are found in abundance in oregano oil are linalyl acetate and geranyl acetate. Although there is a combined effect of the many significant compounds found in oregano oil, its effectiveness is largely attributed to its primary ingredient, a phenol named carvacrol. When lab tested, carvacrol was found to be one of the most potent antibiotics known to science.1 In tests done at town University, it was found to be more effective than penicillin, streptomycin and even vancomycin (considered to be the strongest of all antibiotics). Unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics, oregano oil does not create resistant strains of mutant bacteria. It is able to naturally, and effectively, eliminate any pathogen that is unfortunate enough to cross its path. " Immune Stimulant " As an immune system booster, oregano is unparalleled in the plant kingdom. It is many times stronger than echinacea or goldenseal. A couple of drops daily are enough to supercharge your immune system, which is your first and most powerful defense against disease. " Antibiotic and Antiseptic " Tooth and gum infections respond quickly to Oregano Oil, due to its powerful antibacterial and antiseptic properties. The oil is applied directly to the gums. A drop of Oregano Oil on your tooth brush will leave you mouth feeling fresh and clean. Regular treatment will vastly improve oral health and hygiene. Many people suffering from a variety of chronic infections have seen them disappear quickly after using the oil internally and externally. " Food Poisoning " In a recent study, approximately 20 percent of meat samples obtained from grocery stores contained antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Vegetarians can be affected by food poisoning, as well. Salmonella and E. coli have been found on such vegetables as iceberg lettuce and alfalfa sprouts, resulting in food poisoning. Restaurant food is often contaminated due to poor hygiene or improper washing of produce. By using oregano oil daily, you can significantly reduce your chances of being one of the 84 million cases of food poisoning that occur annually in North America. " Antiviral " Oregano oil has been used very successfully in treating viral conditions, such as colds, flu, shingles, herpes and warts. The fact that wild oregano oil can stop a cold or flu if taken at the first sign of symptoms is indicative of its amazing powers. " Antifungal " The aggressive antifungal properties of oregano oil work effectively against stubborn fungal infections such as candida and nail fungus. You may use the oregano oil internally for candida and both externally and internally for nail fungus. Mix a few drops with shampoo to get rid of dandruff or seborrhea, which are caused by fungal infection of the scalp. Take some to the locker room to eradicate athlete’s foot. " Oregano oil is the active person’s best friend due to its anti-inflammatory and pain relieving action. Used topically, the oil deeply penetrates tissues and, in so doing, brings relief and speeds healing of bruises, torn and sore muscles, sprains, tendonitis, cramps, carpal tunnel syndrome and other similar injuries. These same properties make it a powerful remedy for arthritis. " Anti-allergy " Allergies, which are affecting increasing numbers of people, can often be eliminated by the internal use of oregano oil and by breathing the vapors from the oil. In many cases relief occurs quickly. " Antioxidant " Among the natural antioxidants, oregano oil is one of the most powerful. It protects cells from free radical damage and in the same way it prolongs the shelf life of foods. " http://curingherbs.com/wild_oregano_oil.htm Some day when we have a meltdown on using antibiotics to fight infections, we may have to resort to the " good old days " . My mother's herbs served us well and kept us out of doctor's offices. My brother went when he broke his arm playing football. Until I was about to graduate from high school for a physical, I had only seen a doctor in his office for a broken nose and an abcess on my thumb, the rest my mother treated with her love potions, like castor oil in coffee. LOL People didn't have doctors handy, so they learned to use herbs from Indians and their potions from their country of origin. Do you have a story about herbs to tell us? FYI, Lottie Duthu
Guest guest
You can safely do a higher dose for a month or so without it being toxic. You can add vitamin E to help boost the effect. My understanding is vitamin E does not have toxicity issues like vitamin A. I also later added OLE. I safely took all three for about 2 years. I found that as long as my body was using it up to combat infection, it was safe to use it. Given his weight, I think I would go up in steps to see what he tolerates. Nutritional treatments for infection don't work the same way that drugs work. So going up slowly to make sure he tolerates it shouldn't cause any problems. Another thing I did: I looked for symptomatic evidence that I was not getting enough of a certain nutrient and added whatever supplements I appeared to need based on symptoms. I found that deficiencies caused the body to be less effective at fighting infection. I kept looking for " the weakest link " and addressing that to get my body stronger. HTH. Guest guest
Sorry, I meant to say you can do a quite high dose for a month or so without it being toxic. My son was about 100 pounds when I did six weeks of 160,000 units. He had significant malabsorption due to his genetic disorder. But malabsorption is also common with autism. If you want to adjust by weight, you can guess that somewhere between 50,000 units and 80,000 units per day for a month to six weeks is probably a safe upper limit to keep in mind. So if you are going to go up gradually to see how he tolerates it, that is the upper limit I would keep in mind as a rule of thumb. Hope that is clearer. Guest guest
Poor balance might be a problem with the nervous system or it might be a problem with the ears (where the sense of balance is). Some things that support the nervous system: b vitamins, co-q-10, sea salt and certain fats --. I believe including cholesterol. I eat eggs and bacon and something with butter sometimes when I am dealing with nerve issues). If you can raise his cholesterol, perhaps that will improve. You could also treat his ears topically for infection, with peroxide or something else. If his ears are infected, peroxide will bubble and hurt and he will probably have a fit. That could be good information but if it is too much, you might try something else topically to treat his ears. I found that ears, lungs, and sinuses are difficult to clear up just taking things orally. You make much better progress if you treat systemically and also topically at the same time so the infection has no escape. When you say he has a " soft body " , I am wondering if you mean he has poor muscle control? There is a term for that but I can't think of it. (Hypotonia?) For my sons, this cleared up with taking sea salt. Sea salt also supports healthy mucus production and healthy mucus production is important to a functional immune system. So if that is something he needs, you may see other gains as well. Good luck. Good luck.
