Guest guest
I would be happy to answer anything I can. I started having trouble at 7 or 8 yrs old. I played soccer and every time I kicked the ball I fell down. The said I had arthritis in my knees. That was about the age my legs stopped getting bigger muscle wise. I ran cross country track in middle school and could run the mile but I wasn't very fast. In high school I was in band carried triples (drums) they were heavy and sometimes my lower back would just about give out but I did ok. I can never remember being able to squat down and stand up without using my arms. When I was 19 I was in a car wreck and broke my right femur tore up my right knee broke my back in (2) places and had some internal injuries. I haven't run since because of my knee. When I fall it hurts. I have always been skinny I am 6' and weigh 135#. I am 32 and I still walk fine I do fall a lot and my back, legs, stomach and triceps are very weak. I do use a scooter if I go to a big place like Disney but I will walk through the flea market. I do have a lot of pain in my lower back from breaking it and in my upper and mid back I have bad trigger points that cause a lot of pain. The doctor says is because the muscle wasting is putting stress everywhere else. I was miss diagnosed several times and found out with a DNA test 2 yrs ago. I hope this helps I have led a pretty normal life I am married to a beautiful women and have 4 kids. I would be happy to answer any questions you or your Son might have just ask. Thanks Terry , but have a few questions if you don't mind. My son is 7.5 years old type ? one doc says 3 another said 2. Anyway's he can still walk some. I was wondering what are your abilities now and when were you diagnosed? If you don't mind your age now also. I am just wondering for I guess that exta boost of hope I need right now. > > > > > >
Guest guest
,  I also had bad stomach cramps. Also tests, CT and ultra sound. Eventually the cramping went away. The weight decided to stick around. I think what I eat impacts the cramping. I've hung on through a lot of side effects but quality of life is also important. I think it is important to get the tests because sometimes the problems aren't caused by gleevec. Better to rule them out.  Chi From: A <suzzienovember@...> Subject: [ ] Stomach Cramping Date: Friday, February 19, 2010, 4:38 PM  Hi: I have not been on due to not feeling good. Has anyone had bad stomach cramping from their Gleevec. Its a constant problem for me. I do have Diverticulosis, but I have had a few bad weeks with pain. I even thought maybe Gallbladder. I am so tired of running for every kind of test they can think of, and was just hoping I would feel better. I am sure others have felt like this too. I saw the weight gain issue being brought up too. Yes, I have had that with the Gleevec. Also emotional eating. Now sick and not eating, and still not losing weight. I have to get back on here and follow topics more closely. A. Guest guest
Hi A. I had stomach cramps when I was on the gleevec/zarnestra combo. My dr put me on Prevacid and an anti-depressant thinking that I could be suffering from depression symptons. The combination of the two helped me. The ski-606 drug gave me gallbladder troubles and eventually I had to have it (gallbladder) removed. These drugs are very hard on our GI. So maybe you could try an acid reducer of some kind for a couple weeks and see what happens. But be careful when you take it. Some of those drugs interact with Gleevec. I'm sending prayers your way in hope that you are feeling better. Guest guest
I was on protonix for acid while on gleevec. I had lots of gi problems on gleevec I am now on sprycel with fewer gi problems. I occasionally have acid reflux now, but I have also added a daily serving of Activia. I really believe it helps. Guest guest
Hi: I would like to Thank Everyone for their response, and if it continues then I will go for further testing. I know I have a Hiatal Hernia, Diverticulosis, IBS, so it could be a multitude of things. I am already on Nexium for the GERD. This has just been so frustrating because it has lingered for so long. I am sure if it were serious I would have gotten worse by now. I also just had a colonoscopy recently. Maybe I need a Endoscopy, but I know I can always count on everyone to try to help with any type of issues. I never blame everything on the Gleevec, but I do know its strong enough to give us many different problems. A. > > Hi: I have not been on due to not feeling good.
