Guest guest
Skip told me about a severe reaction to a platelet infusion he recently had, and I will pass it along to you, as some of you may have to have an infusion at some time and this will be valuable information for those with hypersensitivity to antibiotics and low immune system. It occured to me that like the water we drink that contains traces of all kinds of drugs and even vitamins and minerals, we could be allergic to some or all of them, just as we are exposed to antibiotics, human growth hormones and steroids given to cows that is passed on to us in the production of milk and all the other byproducts. He also referred me to this website: http://pathmicro.med.sc.edu/ghaffar/hyper00.htm Here is what happened to him. (After you have a transfusion or platelet infusion, you are flushed out with a saline solution.) It was at that time that he experienced terrible pain and a manifestation of large hives on his head and his hands and feet swelled up. If you ever had it, you would know it and that describes a person going into shock. He had itching and swelling and his heart was irratic. This would scare the bejeebers out of anyone. It feels like your adrenal glands are in overdrive (to me anyway). His platelets were down to a mere two (2), so they decided he needed platelets. I hope they have come up with plan B for next time. Let's all hope he doesn't have to go through that any time soon (or ever again). Here's to another solution, Skip and we're glad you made it through this one, among many other things you have endured in your journey.
