Guest guest
Thanks to all of you for your responses about my daughters stomach issues. I think we will work with both her internist and her llmd. I will keep you posted on how this plays out. Has anyone been on flagyl. The side effects on the pakcage insert are really terrible, many of them exactly what her symptoms are now. Lib ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Sure sounds familiar to me. I'm very careful with my diet. Right now I'm avoiding wheat, whole wheat really gives me gas, and focusing on vegetables. I can't wait til the summer vegies come on in the garden. I don't do fruit because of past abx use. What does help is occasionally using imodium. Kashi bars are good too. My dr. recommends eating 4-6 times a day, that helps. Guest guest
Sure, why not, poke, prod, and go through a bunch of useless tests, after all your doctor has a big mortgage to pay. This way they get to give you the diagnosis of not-lyme. By the way, Crohn's disease is lyme. Kurt RLeach2899@... wrote: She could easily have something else, colitis, irritable bowel, Crohn's disease, etc. The colonoscopy, CT scan and stool tests sound like a good idea. Guest guest
here are some of my thoughts: 1. there is nothing that i know of that says a person with lymes cant develop other problems in addition to lymes. 2. i think one has to be careful about not taking a treatment based *soley* (only?) upon the potential of experiencing side effects. first more people dont experience side effects then do (in general). second the decision should incorporate determining the risks of taking it vs. the risks of *not* taking it. (for example what if taking it would cure her problem whereas in not taking it, it will continue to worsen or lead to other problems ?) (bowel perforation, blood infection etc) third, if you really want to get scared, read the potential side effects of tylenol or aspirin. both are relatively very safe. yet many, many people die from them every year in the us. in my opinion, this shouldnt by itself stop most people from knowing they have very little risk of having problems from taking these. certainly these are not the only considerations in making the decision, but are some thoughts. hth, cfsguy My daughter has had Lyme for 4 years and has been quiet on the list because > she has been feeling decent enough to go on with her life. Guest guest
I had a bad root canal, and the dentist prescribed penicillin and flagyl. I couldn't stop vomiting, I had such a bad reaction. Guest guest
Wow I have to tell ya, this sounds like what I have....celiac disease. I would make sure she gets tested for that.....blood tests. Just make sure that if she does get tested she has been eating gluten for last 6 weeks or the tests will show up negative. This disease is more common than people think. Statistics show 1 out of 122 people have it. After following a gluten free diet my abdominal/diarrhea symptoms subsided. > > My daughter has had Lyme for 4 years and has been quiet on the list because > she has been feeling decent enough to go on with her life. Guest guest
My son is the same way. He's in some degree of pain practically every day. We had an upper GI series done which showed he had moderate reflux so we try to avoid foods that cause problems, but I don't think the reflux has anything to do with the pain around his belly button. It's horrible. I also had him tested for common food allergies but he had zero reaction to any of the "biggies" (milk, wheat, peanuts, soy). Has anyone ever tried probiotics? What about enzymes? I would like to take a more traditional approach but going to "regular" doctors doesn't seem to be finding any answers for us. ( ) (unknown) Do your children complain of stomach pain? My son hurts all the time behind his belly button. He says it is a burning pain. We have taken him to a speacilist and he had many tests. His systoms sound like he has an ulcer, but the doctor never found any. No medication has seemed to help him. I don't know what to do anymore. He has an appointment with a GI doctor in April, because he won't see anyone under 18, but my son said he can't wait that long, I wish I could help him now. Does anyone have any suggestions? He takes Nexium but hasn't helped. pj Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search.
Guest guest
I'm so sorry he's in so much pain. Sad. We do Probiotics, DMG and fish oil. Il have all my "pill-swallowing" kids take them. You can google for what they're for and get them at any natural food story. They just sounded like good things to get into my kids......let alone the ones with issues. Guest guest
My son is taking probiotics, I can't tell if they are really helping him. He takes liquid maalox lately, he says it clams it down some. I had him on the GFCF diet and it helped him some. The past few weeks he has gone off of it. He has eaten pizza about three different times, and ate ice cream, he paid dearly for those. I think even bread hurts his stomach. My husband, so sweet, used to even make him home made bread but he didn't like it nor the gluten, wheat free breads. There's got to be something out there to help, I feel so bad for my son. I will get his meds changed from Nexium to Prevacid and see if that helps, but I think he used to take that a long time ago. Do your sons also suffer with diarrhea and constipation? And he gets hemorrhoids bad and wiping so much makes him raw. He told me he prays about it that God will help him. Breaks my heart. pj My son is the same way. Guest guest
Patti! That is so sad...your poor sweet boy. I'll say a prayer for him too! I know Dylan has "bathroom trouble". Probably more diarrhea than the other. We've entertained a GFCF diet, but we tried for a couple of days and I didn't see a difference. I know I should probably try longer than that, but it is EXPENSIVE and hard to see all three of us doing it, which I really think would only be fair. I bought like three different gluten free snacks and Dylan sort of liked one and wouldn't touch the others. And they probably cost me about $15 total, just for three SNACKS. Ugh. Guest guest
I brought that up to the doctor years ago, but he said no. He has been procto'd from both ends a couple of times each. I called his primary doctor today and asked if he would order him some prevacid, he did, so we will so if that helps. Yes, please everyone say a prayer for him. We used to cry together cuz he would say he prays to Jesus to help him and he didn't know why he wouldnh't heal him. I would tell him I pray to God and Jesus too, but I don't understand why they haven't answered ours prayers either, I just don't have an answer. I would be so depressed about it. It's hard being a mother and seeing your child in pain and can't help them. I know we are not supposed to question God, I told my mom tonight, "why can't they just have Aspergers and not the stomach pain"? Or any of the other pains. pj Could he have a hernia??? Guest guest
The diet can be expensive, when we have extra monies we will go to this one store that has some foods on the diet. Mostly though I cook from scratch, and a bland diet, I don't use regular flour in anything, nor anything with wheat, gluten, or casien, and almost everything has wheat in it. It is very hard, but once I got the hang of it and saw that my son had less pain I didn't mind. But at first I was so depressed about it cuz I didn't know what to fix and sometimes didn't feel like cooking, but felt sooooooo guilty if he didn't have anything he could eat without hurting his stomach. But since he got off of it and his stomach started hurting worse I am going to put him back on it. Gluten is in a lot of our foods, and this is bad for all of us. It bloates us and constipates, I read it is like glue in our digestive system but to aspies it's even worse. Sometimes when they have diarrhea, they are really constipated, the liquid goes around the blockage of waste, and thus the diarrhea, with maybe a few little hard pebbles. Why does everything have to be so hard for them huh? pj Patti! That is so sad...your poor sweet boy. I'll say a prayer for him too! I know Dylan has "bathroom trouble". Guest guest
Could part of the problem be IBS - irritable bowel syndrome? The reason I suggest it is because I have IBS & it has the same symptoms & stress & anxiety make it worse. I have had stomach issued since childhood. I have taken Prilosec for years for reflux, but since recently being diagnosed with IBS I have been put on Librax which has a combination of medicines that calm the intestinal action & help with anxiety. Since I started taking Librax I have much less gas, pain, blotting, & diarrhea. Just a thought since so many of our aspies have anxiety issues.Hugs & Blessings, DonnaSent from my iPhone. Guest guest
My daughter has been on the diet for 2 years. It takes awhile to learn what the kids like and then months later they like stuff they did not like before. Currently my daughter eats the pancakes from Trader Joe's, peanut butter bar from Envirokids (Whole Foods and my local grocery store), sandwiches with bread from Kinnikinnick (online and some Whole Foods), crackers from Glutino (only online), cookies from Kinnikinnick, pizza from Kinnikinnick with soy cheese from Whole Foods, rice pasta (Tinkyata brand) from healthfood stores, and soy ice cream from my local grocery store. I spend more than I would if she was not gfcf but it is worth it. The key is to buy the best tasting stuff out there. Some of the foods I listed taste pretty good. I made cupcakes for my daughter's Valentine party yesterday and no one could tell they were gfcf. My daughter now is able to eat real dinners instead of just hot dogs and french fries. So the cost is going down as I can make just one dinner and sub gfcf stuff for her (rice pasta, soy cheese, etc). > > The diet can be expensive, when we have extra monies we will go to this one store that has some foods on the diet. He takes Nexium but hasn't helped. pj > > > > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search. > > > > > > > > Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
I have a question about a discussion a couple of weeks ago. Several people mentioned a stomach problem created by taking antibiotics - c diff. What is c diff, and how did you get it diagnosed? A poop test? What bacteria are they looking for? I was taking clarithromyacin and have been having really bad indigestion, so that I have to take Zantac all the time, even though I have been off of it now for 2 weeks. Thank you, Cathleen > > >
Guest guest
The abx just about killed my stomach, and nothing would make it better, until I found out about C-Salts at nutri.com. They healed it and I still take it over 2.5 years later, as Vitamin C is very important for those with Lyme. I take about 3,000 mg a day. It is an effervescent C with Potassium, Zinc and something else, forget. Google it. I buy it by the large jar as it is cheaper per dose that way. I take it twice a day, along with my herbs. Hope this helps. Jim. ### > > I have a question about a discussion a couple of weeks ago. Several > people mentioned a stomach problem created by taking antibiotics - c > diff. Guest guest
Thanks Jim, for the tip about the C-salts. I have ordered it and am using it now...that was useful advice to me because I am taking so many capsules and pills that I hated to add the Vit C in along with everything else, so I was happy to find out about this form of it. Guest guest
Minocin would be better than Emycin or tetracycline. You can also get liquid I think. Make sure you eat with the Minocin..it will not hurt the absorption. Don't depend on a rheumatologist ordering the antibiotics because most of them are not in favor of losing their patients Cooky AP12 yrs Subject: rheumatic Stomach problems Hello, I understand that the antibiotics can cause stomach problems. I already take Prevacid 2X a day and have motility issues in swallowing. I can't swallow pills anymore. So I was wondering if I would be a candidate for the antibiotic protocol? I have MS (take Avonex weekly) but my doctor thinks I may have Sjogren's syndrome, psoriatic arthritis and his latest is possible Crest syndrome. He is sending me to a rheumatologist but I don't want to start with their typical treatments of injections, etc. I tend to be sensitive to meds and like to keep my intake to a minimum. Guest guest
I had worse stomach problems before the AP than after, surprisingly. When I do experience stomach pain or nausea I take massive doses of probiotics, like Garden of Life Primal Defense, and I feel much better. The antibiotics are SO worth it. Guest guest
> > I have severe stomach aches. I have been doing this diet thing since August of 08. It does not matter what I eat or do my stomach hurts so badly. I am to the point I cannot eat. Even if I do eat I am starving all the time. I feel like I am starving to death. What can I do about the pain in my upper stomach. I dry heave every time I eat. What can I do to get rid of the pain the pain. I cannot stand it anymore. +++Hi Ellen. I understand how you feel since my stomach was my worst symptom when I started on my candida program. At one point I could only eat 9 foods in the whole world (I had no choice since everything else came back up), and I was losing 3 lbs. per day. If you change over to this program too quickly you will experience more die-off symptoms which aren't necessary, since it is important to go slowly and allow your body to adjust to each change. You should be following " Curing Candida, How to Get Started " when changing to this program: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro1.php Also, if you are taking supplements, treatments and drugs not included on this program you will experience more problems. May I ask you to please wait until I've had a chance to reply to your messages before posting another one - I'm on the computer early in the morning and after 8 hours I have to stop, so if you posted messages in the afternoon or evening I answer them the next morning. Please see my reply to your earlier message. The best, Bee
Guest guest
Awww, this is very sad to hear. I had multiple ulcers, not bleeding, and symptoms of GERD like acid reflux, etc. I never had issues with belching or anything.... I do hear it can be from Lyme though. I tested positive for H-Pylori a long time before getting Lyme and had to be treated with that, but then they didn't know if I had ulcers or not from that bacteria. I then had an endoscopy a few years later, which was last year, and I saw multiple ulcers throughout my upper GI. These have successfully been treated and are gone now and my GI track looks good! I wish the best for you, it will only get better! Elaina From: PickPinkFlowers <haggisisscotsfood@...> Subject: [ ] Stomach Problems Date: Friday, July 31, 2009, 9:15 PM    I have learned I have e coli, salmonella, H pylori, a bleeding ulcer, and GERD. I am belching non-stop. I can't eat anything comfortably. The doc said make sure not to suppress the belches because gas can build up to such a degree that, in extreme cases such as mine, the pressure stops your heart. I have decided to think of myself as a human calliope.  Josie
Guest guest
Dear Jackie, Thanks for mentioning that about your stomach problems. My stomach is now very sensitive to a lot of things since c-difficle. I stopped taking Nexium because of the cost, but I think I need to go back to taking it again. Antibiotics tear up my stomach much more than any food preference. My gallbladder has been gone a long time, but the liver bile can really cause constant stomach pains. This may sound strange, but the pains I had when I had a heart attack were very similiar to the pains I had with my last gall bladder attack. I was at the World's Fair in 1984, when I was struck by terrible pains in my chest. They brought me to the doctor's station where I was monitored for hours before they decided I needed to be hospitalized. The ambulance was right there, so off I went and never got home for 9 days, they wouldn't let me go home and get my things. My enzymes were so off the charts that they couldn't operate for 5 days. I hope you are doing well at this time, Jackie. xoxoxox Lottie
