Guest guest
So...yesterday, all 3 of my PID kids got the pneumovax, bc their dr wants to check the polysaccaride thing. I know what I mean:) but am too tired to say it right. Savannah was complaining yesterday evening that her arm hurt where the shot went in, but the other kids complained a little bit, too, and I gave them all motrin and ice packs. About 2 am, Savannah woke up sobbing about her arm. She does tend to be very sensitive, so I gave her more motrin and let her use the heating pad on it for a little bit, she fell back asleep. Then back up to cry. And back asleep. We did this all night. This morning she had no temp. She would not get up for school, or eat, or anything, just kept saying her arm hurt. She also was saying her throat hurt/felt very dry, and had started a cough. She slept most of the morning. At twelve, she got up and dressed, ate some soup, and went to school for about 3 hrs. I checked her temp before she went to school, and it was normal. She was still complaining quite a lot after school(330), so I checked her temp again, it was just about 99. DH and I HAD to go out to buy a mattress, our waterbed burst this week, and we've been taking turns sleeping on the couch. I left the kids with my mom so I didnt have to drag them thru the mattress store. I left at about 430, and checked her temp, at that time, it was 100. I told my mom she could have another motrin around five. All this time, she is getting more and more upset about her arm....just air blowing by it makes her scream. Mom gave the motrin at 5, then called me at the store at a little after 6 to tell me she just took her temp, bc she looked really red kept crying....and it was 102. I left and went to pick them up, Savannah is acting almost hysterical, saying she is cold, help mom, my arm, my throat, help, mommy, etc. I felt like even with the motrin, her temp was moving up awfully fast, so I ran her to the after hours clinic, where her temp was 103.5 and the dr told me that some kids run a little temp after a shot(duh), of course, if she acts like she cant breathe in the night, go to the ER, and hey, I'll give her some augmentin since her throat hurts, but I dont think its an infection(????) and oh, as soon as you wake up in the morning, call whatever dr gave her the shot....he also said her heart was racing, at 110 per minute. Other than all that, she seems fine. She reacted similarly to the first flu shot she ever had, yrs ago, and we put that down to her egg allergy, and she hasnt had one since. She is no longer allergic to egg, and the pnuemovax isnt grown in egg li ke the flu shot......so it seems like maybe she is reacting to something else in the shots? Does this seem like a normal reaction to pneumovax? am I overreacting? now Im home alone with her(and the other 3), and Im feeling really uncomfortable about this. valarie mom to 3 w/cvid
