Guest guest
Hi all. I know I don't post often, but I read. I was on a study with interferon and Gleevec, but my body apparently cannot handle the interferon. Too much bone pain. So, doc is switching me to Tasigna starting next week. I excitedly asked if I was going to get a 2 week vacation like Donna. he laughed and said you don't need to. I said bummer. He says, okay, how about compromising one week vacation. I'll take it!! We went over all the differences between the meds, and he's thinking after some big meeting next week Gleevec will no longer be the first line med. I've read pretty good things about the other 2 meds. One question, how is " thinking " on Tasigna? Better than Gleevec? Thanks, Tammy PS. Lottie. prayers are being said for ya lady! Guest guest
My doc said the same thing about Gleevec ... it's about to lose its position in line! p.s. I like Tasigna. Guest guest
I must be missing something here. Why are you taking both interferon and Gleevec? This, I think, is highly unusual. I've been on Gleevec for over seven years... so far, GREAT! Minimal side effects and still PCRU. PTL Using both medications together sounds very odd. Maybe the others can chime in on this. Guest guest
Hi : I have been Gleevec for 9 years, and also achieved PRCU. I think this combination is for people who have not gotten a good response with the Gleevec alone. I could never do it, because I am on Gleevec due to toxicity of the Interferon. I did read somewhere that the Interferon is not a strong dose like when you just took Interferon by itself. I hope Tammy does well with the Tasigna, and anyone else who has to switch. Maybe someone else has something more on this. A. > > I must be missing something here. Why are you taking both interferon and > Gleevec? This, I think, is highly unusual. Guest guest
Thank you for the clarification. I too hope Tammy does well on the Tasigna! Obviously there are a few holes in my medical knowledge. Guest guest
, Sorry, I replied, it is in my sent items, somehow it never made it here. I was on a study to see if the combination of Gleevec and Interferon together would " cure " CML. Studies in Germany were leaning that direction. But, Interferon was not for me. Tammy Re: [ ] Off study - leaving Gleevec - starting Tasigna Thank you for the clarification. I too hope Tammy does well on the Tasigna! Obviously there are a few holes in my medical knowledge. Guest guest
Hi Tammy . I have been trying to catch up with my emails and find your post. I also after 7 years of gleevec side effect I am switching to Tasigna in a week. I am so happy as I feel I am cured as gleevec was taken my life away and was about to quit my job and rest home. Please post us how you are doing with Tasigna. I also want to thank everyone who been posting and educating us with a lot of information. This group is awesome. Wish you all a good summer.
