Guest guest
Hi, I used to post on here quite a bit. My wife Beth has had CML for over two years now and has been doing great on Gleevec. She reached total remission in less than 6 months. recently she has been having episodes of vomiting after taking her nightly dose but it only happens about every other week or so. The last time she also had a slight rash develop on her neck. I'm wondering if any one else has had a similar experiance in the past. Does it look like she may be developing an allergie to the gleevec. We hate this idea just because the Gleevec has worked so well the thought of having to come off it is pretty scarey to us. Any ideas?
Guest guest
You said she takes a nightly dose? Does she lie down right away, or wait a while? You should not lie down right after taking Gleevec, but if she doesn't, then I don't know what it could be. I doubt she would be allergic after two years, but check with her dr. Good luck, and don't let a rash get ahead of itself, they can be the devil to get rid of. bobby a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.017 11/2009 PCR 0.034 #840 Zavie's Zero Club From: monkeyfun_16901 <monkeyfun_16901@...> Subject: [ ] Possible allergie to gleevec? Guest guest
The rash is probably associated with the vomiting. When we vomit, it's common to break little tiny capillaries and/or become flushed. Does the rash resolve after some time? If so, then I highly doubt it would be an allergy. If she was truly allergic to the Gleevec, she wouldn't get any relief since she takes the drug daily. The rash would just get worse. I used to vomit after taking my dose until I realized that I wasn't drinking enough water with the pill. When I increased my water to at least 6 oz, I noticed the nausea was cut down tremendously. I would suggest that she try eating more food to cushion the stomach and drink an entire glass of water when taking the pill. Hope that helps.
