Guest guest
I am SUCH a baby. I would rather have 50 more bmb/bma's than have an MRI and I am about to leave the house for one. I took 1/2 Valium just to get ready, and will take 10mg before the procedure. I am claustrophobic, and have had an open one once, it was terrible too. Well, wish me luck, I have to go to the lions now, that's how it feels! Guest guest
Bobby, I understand your aprehension and I know that by the time you read this it will all be over but... In 2000 an MRI caught a large pituitary tumor that had been growing for about eight years undiagnosed. It was ruining my life, destroying much of my hormone function and making me blind by pressing on the back of my optic nerves. The MRI made possible the surgery which gave me my life back. I have one now every two years to be sure the beast does not return. My wife had an MRI two years ago, she had to insist on an Open MRI because of her claustriphobia too. The technicians were very helpful and let me stay with her and hold her had through the ordeal. Next time you need one maybe you can find someone to hold your hand? With you in Spirit! Guest guest
Hi , thanks for your help. I took 1/2 Valium just to get out the door, and 10mg to get in the machine, The tech was very nice, she had me walk around the machine to see it was open at both ends, said it was a newer one that I most likely had previously. And she put me in it feet first, instead of head first. I lived through it and have slept most of the day, mostly the Valium, but mostly exhaustion from fear! next time, God forbid, i won't be such a baby, I know it saves lives, but would still rather have a bma......Bobby a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.01 11/2009 PCR 0.034 02/2010 PCRU #840 Zavie's Zero Club > > > I am SUCH a baby. Guest guest
Hi a: Hope you did well. Your not alone. They wanted to do one on me for my spine back in 1998, and they had to pull me out because of my claustrophobia. Never did go back for it. I thought if it was ever necessary that I would do the open one. Not sure if I could even do that. Let us know how you survived this one. A. > > I am SUCH a baby. Guest guest
Dear Bobby,\  You are not alone in feeling that way!! I'm right with you. During my last one at MDACC I said the ry, and the test still wasn't done. To lay in any position that long is not comfortable.  BMA's are MUCH easier.  God be with you and GOOD results. Take care, Jackie S. Guest guest
Hi Jackie, I think this MRI was a newer one than what they had a few years back. She put me in feet first, and I could see a few things, my head was not entirely inside the machine. The first one I had I was not only IN it, they raised the bed so I was almost nose to the top of it, very terrifying. I know now though, that 5mg Val. will be better than 10, it took me all day to shake it! The pain has lessened a great deal, thank goodness, but I should know shortly what was, or is , the matter. Bobby a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.01 11/2009 PCR 0.034 02/2010 PCRU #840 Zavie's Zero Club From: ROBERTA DOYLE <rcd1929@...> Subject: [ ] MRI " " < > Date: Friday, July 9, 2010, 8:11 AM  I am SUCH a baby. Bobby a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.01 11/2009 PCR 0.034 02/2010 PCRU #840 Zavie's Zero Club
Guest guest
a, My last MRI I had 40 mg of Valium by mouth, and I still could not go into it!!! ( i lasted about 45 seconds before I started to scream to get me out!) I did okay with the open MRI, but did even better with the stand up one that is in town. Guest guest
Wow! 40 mg of Valium. I wonder what they give you if they give it to you in an IV? Way back when I was going to OHSU for the Gleevec trial, I asked to be put to sleep, for the BMB/BMA. They gave me Val. in an IV. My girlfriend picked me up, we went to lunch, and drove to two of her daughters so I could meet them and their kids. Came back to Portland, had dinner at my hotel and I went to bed. the next day she came by and picked me up and I said to her, let's go meet your daughter;s today and their kids!!! I didn't remember one thing from the day before, it was an entire wasted day and I have not ever been sedated since for a bma. That doesnt happen when they use Versed, as in a colonoscopy. But if 10 mg val. knocked me out for the day, on 40 I would probably still be sleeping!!1 a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.01 11/2009 PCR 0.034 02/2010 PCRU #840 Zavie's Zero Club > > From: ROBERTA DOYLE <rcd1929@...> > > Subject: [ ] MRI > > " " < > > > Date: Friday, July 9, 2010, 8:11 AM > > > > I am SUCH a baby.
