OUR HAIR TURNS GRAY, OR FALLS OUT, OUR GUMS BLEED OR OUR TEETH FALL OUT, OUR FEET SWELL AND WE CAN'T WALK, OR WE CAN WALK AND FALL OVER ALL THE TIME. VERY DEPRESSING, INDEED, VERY DEPRESSING. IT'S VERY HARD TO GET UP EVERY DAY, INDEED IF YOU CAN EVEN GET UP, AND PUT ON A HAPPY FACE!! BUT THEN WHEN WE TAKE A LOOK AROUND, WE SEE PEOPLE WHO CANNOT WALK, OR CANNOT TALK, OR HAVE NO HAIR, OR TEETH, OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE DISEASES FAR WORSE THAN CML, AND THEN WE CAN SAY , WELL, WE'RE NOT REALLY ALL THAT BAD OFF. I HAVE HAD A BAD BACK NOW FOR 2 WEEKS, I SLEEP AN HOUR AND WAKE UP, AND IT MAY BE 3 HOURS BEFORE I GET BACK TO SLEEP. AM FINALLY GETTING AN MRI THIS WEEK. BUT MY FRIEND FELL DOWN PICKING A ROSE FOR A FRIEND OF HERS, WAS IN THE HOSPITAL 4 WEEKS WITH A BROKEN HIP AND IS NOW IN REHAB FOR 2 WEEKS. I AM GLAD I AM NOT HER. I WENT TO THE REHAB CENTER TO VISIT HER, SHE WAS IN THE DINING ROOM. 99% OF THE PEOPLE IN THE DINING ROOM WERE IN WHEEL CHAIRS, 50% WERE ASLEEP EATING LUNCH, AND MOST OF THEM WERE JUST SITTING THERE STARING INTO SPACE. YEP, GLAD I'M NOT ONE OF THEM. LAST NIGHT MY SON IN LAW CAME BY FOR A SWIM. HE IS 57, HAS AGGRESSIVE PARKINSON'S. THE OTHER DAY AT U OF MICH MY TRIAL NURSE AND A NURSE PRACTITIONER WERE ASKING ME QUESTIONS, ONE WAS DID I FEEL BETTER AFTER THE DR. GAVE ME TWO SHOTS FOR MY HIP, OR DID I THINK IT WAS THE MEDICINE, THE VICODIN? I SAID IT WAS THE TWO HITS I TOOK OFF MY PIPE! THEY COVERED THEIR EARS AND SAID, DON'T TELL US THAT!!! TRUTH IS, I WANTED TO FIND OUT IF I WOULD FEEL BETTER, AND GUESS WHAT? I DID,SO THERE!! ONE MIGHT ASK, BOBBY DOYLE, WHERE EVER DID YOU GET THE " STUFF " ?? ONE OF MY MANY GRAND KIDS CAME BY WITH IT, THOUGHT IT MIGHT MAKE ME FEEL BETTER AND TAKE AWAY THE HURT. I SAY, IF IT HELPS , WHY NOT? MY FRIEND IN THE NURSING HOME ASKED HOW COME I DIDN'T HURT AS MUCH ONE DAY AND I TOLD HER I HAD THE " MAGIC MEDICINE " AND I'M NOT SHARING. CAN YOU PICTURE ALL THOSE OLD FOLKS IN THE NURSING HOME, HIGH AND HAPPY???? IT IS HARD TO LAUGH AND BE HAPPY WHEN YOU HURT, OR ARE OLD AND SICK, BUT I DON'T KNOW A WAY OUT OF DEPRESSION, SO I TRY NOT TO GET THERE. AND LOTTIE, WHY DO THEY CALL IT " C DIFICIL " ? DOESN'T THAT MEAN DIFFICULT? THERE IS NOTHING DIFFICULT ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP GOING TO THE POT, DOES THAT MAKE IT AN OXYMORON???? TODAY I AM MISSING MY 63RD CLASS REUNION ON LONG ISLAND. I WAS ALL PACKED AND READY TO GO, BECAUSE MY BACK HAD FELT BETTER, WHEN THE PAIN KICKED IN AND I COULDN'T LEAVE. AND BOTH MY SISTERS ARE THERE FOR IT, AS IT IS ALSO AN ALUMNI LUNCHEON. ONE SISTER CAME IN FROM CALIFORNIA THE OTHER LIVES THERE, WE HAVE NOT BEEN TOGETHER IN SEVERAL YEARS, AND AS WE ARE NOW, 84, 82, AND 80, WE MAY NEVER HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY AGAIN. SO I AM REALLY TICKED ABOUT MISSING IT. MY HIGH SCHOOL BUDDY SAID TO ME, DON'T WORRY, JUST GET BETTER, THERE IS ALWAYS NEXT YEAR! Guest guest
dear roberta this past week i also tried the magic medicine. my bones were aching so bad from the gleevec that i didn't know what else to do. i felt absolutely cornered by pain. i tried the magic medicine back in the 70s but never stuck with it. well.......let me tell you, inside of about thirty minutes my pain was half what it was and was now in the tolerable range. i will continue with it if it i get that bad again. thanks for your post and your honesty.  MEL SWERLEIN ________________________________ From: ROBERTA DOYLE <rcd1929@...> Sent: Thu, July 8, 2010 7:19:49 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Lifting one up  IT IS NO WONDER PEOPLE GET IN A FUNK WITH ALL WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH. EITHER WE POOP TO MUCH, OR DON'T POOP AT ALL. EITHER WE CAN'T EAT, OR CAN'T KEEP IT DOWN IF WE CAN EAT. IF IT'S COLD OUR JOINTS ACHE. IF IT'S HOT, WE CAN'T BREATHE. WE EITHER CAN'T GET TO SLEEP, OR WE CAN'T WAKE UP. Guest guest
Hi Group.. I'm house sitting in Laguna Beach and on a different computer so hopefully it will let me post. My laptop kicks me out everytime I try to post. I had to say to Bobby D- anything that keeps the pain away is worth a try- you Go Girl. In California you can get a prescription. I still trying to lose the 20 pounds I gained when I started Gleevec- so I don't think I'll try the magic if I got the Munchies I could gain another 20lbs!! Sorry you are missing your reunion- I was feeling bad because I was going to miss my 40th but you put some perspective when I saw you were missing your 63rd!!! Happy to see Mama Lottie back on board with her love and guidance.. I am going to ask my Doc to give me a break from work in August- maybe discuss switching drugs if he thinks my fatigue would lessen.  Three years ago, I was diagnosed on a Friday and back to work on Monday. I never took time off during the worst of the bone pain, nausea etc but I'm really tired now and my quality of life is taking a hit. My daughter is 16 and she needs me to be as happy and healthy as I can be. I work 10 sometimes 12 hour days four days a week and it is wearing on me. I'll go on a leave of absence and hopefully in a few months be back to work and back on track. Thank you to all you veterans that have paved the way through the clinical trials.. Thanks to you, I'm planning on a future instead of a funeral. And for what ever reason, today is the first day in 13 days I have had no pain at all, so I am going to let the magic med take the honors, whether it did or not!!! Guest guest
Hey y'all-- I am happy to be alive every day. I think that magic medicine sounds great--I am not sure how to go about getting some, but I am sure somebody around must know. I think whatever helps, go for it. This is a natural herbal remedy in my book--God made it and he only gives good gifts, so it must be good and useful for making those of us who are in pain or having difficulty, to feel better. I wonder if I could do my job while feeling good? Certainly. What about my kids--would i be setting a bad example? I don't know, but I would love to have the chance to try it to see. I wonder if the pharmaceutical extract (THC) would work as well as the whole herb? If anybody has knowledge about these things, let me know. Ironic, me a child of the 60s, who doesn't know how to get some good herb?! Wow. WHat is the world coming to. Hugs to everybody and God bless and keep you, one and all. Guest guest
Bless your heart you are such a fighter. T Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry [ ] Lifting one up " CML " < > Date: Thursday, July 8, 2010, 1:53 AM Â Dear , Your post certainly cheered me up, in all my meloncholy, I wondered what my problem really was and I think I am probably a little depressed because of all the things I can't do and I have been focusing on that. Today was better than yesterday, so that is something to rejoice about. Tomorrow is supposed to clear up - without rain, so I will try to take advantage of that and get out. I need to renew my driver's license, and get my handicap tag, so I can focus on that. I hope is able to get out of his funk as well and appreciate the joys of each day. Hard to do when you are sick, but if we try a little harder, we can change our attitude about what has been handed us. I know this group is praying for him and wishing him the best. Blessings, Lottie
