Guest guest
Depends on how elevated. Macey's had elevated liver levels throughout her disease. Sometimes they relate it to Advil use, IVIG, or antibiotics. The highest she's been is just over 100 on each level. But they eventually come down. She's usually not very jaundiced so they don't worry too much. Reagon went to the dr. today for infusion and her labs from last time came back that her GGT AST and ALT (liver enzymes) were all very elevated. The dr. acted like it was no big deal that it was just from the antibiotic she had been on (Septra). Has anyone else ever had this happen? BeckiReagon 7yrs. Guest guest
My son (age 2) has had elevated Liver Enzymes for over 9 months now.....My family care DR and our Gastro. both told me not to worry about it at first, then we were sent to a liver specialist who told us it was because of his use of Singulair. We no longer take it to see if it will make a change. 3 months off there has been no change yet....and still no answers. I still ask at each appt and they said to give it more time and that it is likely due to something else.....but we don't know what that something else is yet either. So I guess what I am saying is to just keep asking and perhaps have the liver panel redone in a month to see if the results change any....that way you can be sure it was the meds and not something else. Hope this helps A > > > Depends on how elevated. Macey's had elevated liver levels throughout her disease. Sometimes they relate it to Advil use, IVIG, or antibiotics. Guest guest
Her GGT was 73 (23 is norm) AST was 164 (32 is norm) and ALT was 184 (24 is norm). Her uric acid was normal and her bilirubin and BUN were just a tiny bit low. She was on Septra which I have now read can cause bad headaches and high liver levels. Since she was having the bad headaches the whole time she was on it (2 weeks) I was also giving her Tylenol and Advil around the clock. She's not jaundice and the dr. didn't seem concerned yesterday, but her levels seemed pretty high to me! Becki > > > Depends on how elevated. Macey's had elevated liver levels throughout her disease. Guest guest
(6 with Hyper IGE) also gets elevated LFT #s when he is fighting an infection. Sometimes he even has white stools. They always freak out at the hospital and want to do invasive testing of his liver (I haven't let them yet), but we have had a liver CT and there is no anatomical reason for the LFT numbers, and he doesn't get jaundiced. MY THEORY - and I'm just the mom, not a doctor - is that his liver function is impared by his body trying to fight off the infection. Once the infection has cleared up, his LFT # come back to normal over time (usually a week or two). I wouldn't worry unless she is looking jaundiced - that means her liver isn't functioning adequately and she could become toxic. >From: " Becki Rion " <rionfam@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Elevated liver enzymes after taking Septra >Date: Wed, 17 Dec 2008 03:52:01 -0000 > >I'm a little freaked out. Guest guest
, That makes me feel so much better!!! That is exactly what her dr. said. He said with kids with true liver disease or problems that their #'s will be in thousands and if that happened...then we worry. He said the #'s yesterday weren't a big deal and will most likely drop within a week or two (she stopped the Septra on 12/12). I am just a worrier! It scared me when her #'s went up 5 to 6 times higher than they normally are within 2 weeks. Thank you!! I wouldn't be concerned. The numbers will likely return to normal after the Septra is stopped and even if it's not stopped any time soon it shouldn't cause any problems. It would likely be a different story if the numbers were in the 1000's. > > > > > Hope this helps! > > > > > (NEMO carrier) > Mom to Hayden (14-unknown PID) > Evan (14-unknown PID) > Conner (14-NEMO; transplanted 8/17/07 - from an anonymous donor) > Kelsey (12-unknown PID and NEMO carrier) > Wife to (unknown PID) > www.caringbridge.org/visit/smithkids > > > > >
