Guest guest
Fellow CML Warriors, My niece, Chelsea, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her cord-blood transplant for CML in 2000. She was only 12 at the time, and Gleevec was not yet approved. The trials were not open to children, so the advice of all the doctors (including Dr. Druker) was to go to transplant. It was a hard row to hoe....she had several complications and has dealt with health issues to this day from it, BUT SHE IS STILL HERE!! YAY!! She is a beautiful 22 year old now, living with my family and has a wonderful boyfriend. All of her family and friends remember the hardships and are soooo thankful for these past ten years. We are having a party to celebrate on May 16th and I would like to ask any of you who remember Chelsea from that period to send a best wishes email to her (or, for snail-mail card, email me for the address). Some of you on this list sent wonderfully affirming messages to her during her transplant for which I am forever grateful. Any time we had any questions about CML, you were here. Thank you! Keep up the good fight! Love, Lori (Chelsea's Aunt) Dx 1/00 CML, UCBT 5/00, subsequent hospitalizations for septic shock, dehydration, shingles, post-herpetic neuralgia, seizure, nausea and vomiting (2-month hospitalization), AVN of her knees, GvHD of skin, three knee surgeries (fresh osteochondral allografts), osteoporosis.
