Guest guest
I was just wondering if anyone had anything to reduce the side effects of Gleevec. I hate taking any kind of medication. The ones that are annoying me are diarrhea, nausia and tiredness. Cheers Bedrock
Guest guest
The longer you take Gleevec the less side affects.Hoverer that does not always work. Diarrhea I take 1/2 pill in morning--nausea that depends on what you eat with gleevec,I take mint candy.Tiredness gets better when your bloods counts get more normal. When I get tired I rest or nap,I'm retired so I loose time but if I push it I will pay later.Hope this helps 5 1/2 years gleevec 600 ________________________________ From: bedrockbooks <no_reply > Sent: Wed, July 14, 2010 6:36:48 PM Subject: [ ] Side effects of Gleevec  I was just wondering if anyone had anything to reduce the side effects of Gleevec. Guest guest
Hi: I can only tell you from my experience with Gleevec for the past 10 years. I like to take all my pills first thing in the morning, and then I am done with pills for the day. I do have to eat a substantial breakfast before I eat to prevent nausea. I do not like to eat real early in the morning, so I start with just coffee. The tiredness is bad sometimes, and other days I am fine. When my body tells me to rest then I do. I also deal with a lot of eye edema that is pretty much there all the time. Its worse in the morning, and I just use a ice pack on my eyes. Everyone deals with their side effects in different ways, especially depending on the lifestyle. I do feel they are manageable in my case. > > I was just wondering if anyone had anything to reduce the side effects of Gleevec. I hate taking any kind of medication. Guest guest
I take a pill for the diarhea. If you want I can get you the name. It is a prescription but works great!! I also take 1 small Zofran before my Gleevec and NO MORE nausea!!!!!!!!! (YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!) The tiredness, just keep pluggin along and rest when you can't do more. That has passed for me. It now only happens once every three or four months!! Let me know if you need the exact meds and strengths!! Blessings and keep your chin up!! Jo-Dee in Hot Humid Ohio!!!! Guest guest
What happened I took a break and have my dosage reduced to 200mg due to untorance to side effects. Next thing happen after less than 6 months I lost 2 log reduction. When I went back to 400mg my CML cells start to shrink but side effect came back full speed so I asked to change treatment. I Am not sure yet if Tasigna is right for me,will find out. Did Mom had to increase Gleevec dosage or did her dr. Checked if she had not developped A resistance to gleevec? (Here is a test can be done but I don't remember the test name. Good luck to Mom the good news is thAt we have more than one options now for treatment which was not there 10 years ago.
