I think the only difference is taking one pill vs 4. My insurance would only

pay for the 400mg pills, so maybe they are cheaper. I took the 100s when I

was in the hospital last year, and it was a pain taking so many pills.

[ ] Gleevec 100 mg or 400 mg pills

Hi

I have been on Gleevec 100mg 4 pills a day for the last 4 years. I am

thinking to have my doctor switch to 400 mg one pill a day. Is it a good

move?

Thanks.

Hi Neal,

It is a pain to take 4 pills a day. When my doctor prescribed 4-100mg a day

because if I needed to come down the dosage because of extreme low white count,

we could adjust the dosage. It had happened once to me that he wanted me to

take 3 pills instead. But my count now stablizes at 400mg. So I wonder if I

should just take one 400 mg pill instead.

Also, I read somewhere that it is not good to consume the pill coating. I don't

remember where I read it.

Hi ,

If you are tolerating the 4x100 pills daily well then I wouldn't change.

Even though Novartis says that it is exactly the same, there have been

several patients who found that the 1x400 pill came with more side effects.

Hi all.

I thought that I would share with you Robyn's doseages of Gleevec. She first

was put on 4 100mg. a day to see if she could tolerate it.

She was able to tolerate it so no adjustment was needed. Neal is correct in

that the insurance company wanted to pay for 1 400 mg. pills rather than the 4

100mg. The price is cheaper. The change did come when the doctor determined

that she was doing well on 400mg. and wrote the rx for it.
