CML SUPPORT AND INFORMATIONI hope everyone is praying and thinking of Jackie

Schneider who is beginning the procees of her BMT on Friday, just 2 days away.

This has been a long time developing and a very long struggle for her, but she

is very courageous and has a lot of faith, so Jackie, you will have a lot of

support from the one thousand plus people in this group. When you think about

it, that is powerful to have that many people praying and thinking warm thoughts

of you as you begin this new journey that very few people get to experience. I

know that you have been an informed patient all along and know what you are

facing and very bravely. You have been mentally preparing for this for some

time now and finally you have come face to face with your demon and you will

slay the dragon.

You will be added to our book of heroes. Look to Judy Telford for your

inspiration. She was diagnosed in 1992. She now lives a normal life with her

family in Australia and is an active member of this group. There are others;

has written about his daughter who is recovering bravely from her BMT. We

don't hear a great deal from BMT patients, because they have another support

group for BMT patients, but we know there are legions out there. Your posts are

always on a positive note and always welcomed here.

Keep us informed or have or someone in your family let us know how you

are doing. Not sure you can have a computer while in isolation. Rest now,

assured that you are vital to our group and a loyal member and we will think of

you often. I personally picture your steadfastness and your willingness to do

whatever you had to do and the many trips you made from Iowa, you are a real

warrior and trooper that we can all look up to for spirit, passion and

inspiration. I think I speak for everyone in our group, but you also have a

large family who are your strongest supporters.

[ ] Aspergillius/mold/Vit.D

As some of you may remember my son has aspergillius, which is a fungus that

has covered his lung and intertwined with the vessels in the lung and spine,

so rather than risk what time he has left, he has opted not to have surgery

as he could die on the operating table. Now it seems Vitamin D has another

disease that it could prevent and that is what caught my eye on the article.

Here it is from Science Daily.

Vitamin D May Treat or Prevent Allergy to Common Mold... ScienceDaily (Aug.

18, 2010) — Research conducted by Dr. Jay Kolls, Professor and Chair of

Genetics at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans

" The environmental mold, Aspergillus fumigatus, is one of the most prevalent

fungal organisms inhaled by people. In the vast majority, it is not

associated with disease. However, in asthmatics and in patients with Cystic

Fibrosis (CF), it can cause significant allergic symptoms. Up to 15% of CF

patients develop a severe allergic response called Allergic Bronchopulmonary

Aspergillosis (ABPA). Since the mold is so common, the researchers wanted to

identify the factors that determine why only a subset of patients develop

the allergy and what factors regulate tolerance or sensitization to the mold

resulting in the development of ABPA. To gain insights, the group studied

two groups of patients with CF. Both groups were colonized with A. Fumigatus

but only one had ABPA. "
