Guest guest
I took my second dose of MTX last night. Woke up in the night with an acrid taste in my mouth and drank a large quantity of water--just like last week. Felt listless all day. Took two naps. Hint of rash on the chest that went away an hour after I noticed it. Stab of a headache that went away with more water. And I'm only taking 5 mg, half of what the doctor ordered! It's a powerful drug, all right. (I'm taking folic acid, too.) Do the rest of you drink a lot of water with your meds? My body seems to demand it, first with the Plaquenil and now with the methotrexate. Sierra
Guest guest
As far as I'm concerned I think of water as just another of my many medicines. I fill up a 2 liter soda bottle in the morning and make sure I drink all of it during the day. I also drink about the same amount of coffee, milk, and juice. > > From: " snowdrift52003 " <snowdrift52003@...> > Date: 2004/05/21 Fri PM 11:34:59 GMT > Rheumatoid Arthritis > Subject: mmm...MTX! > > I took my second dose of MTX last night. Guest guest
My dose of MTX is very low, only 2.5 mg, and I drink a lot of fluids. I do anyway so it is hard for me to tell if it is due to the meds or just me. I haven't noticed headaches or tiredness with it, but I get both when I take the Diclofenac. Jacy, You're the first person I've known who takes such a low dose. Can you tell me what your doctor told you about starting at 2.5 mg.? (When I told my nurse that I wanted to start at 5 mg. instead of the prescribed 10 mg., she seemed very surprised, and it made me wonder if a low dose could be effective.) Guest guest
Sierra, I have had colon cancer twice and chemo once so she is very conservative about starting me on new meds. My body reacts very quickly to meds and normal doses are sometimes too high for me. (Chemo does more to your body than just kill cancer cells believe me!) So she starts low and checks to see how that works before she will increase doses. After my next appointment on June 1st and the blood work then, we will see if I stay at that level or up it. Guest guest
When I first started on methotrexate it made me nauseous (sp?) to the extent that for a full day after I took the dose I did nothing but lie on the sofa. But eventually my body adjusted and it only occurred when the doctor increased my dose. I told my doc about it and he asked if I was able to tolerate it -- my answer was yes because the alternative (the pain) was not acceptable and at that time Enbrel, Remicade, etc did not exist. Yes, these are powerful drugs but I thank God every day that I am on them because otherwise I would be in a wheelchair.
