Guest guest
Hello All! I just wanted to send a short update since so many here have been so wonderful to me since diagnosis... It seems that like my CML case, I too, am unique in that there is not a perfect match donor, or anything even close to a perfect match for me on the registry. The plan now is to stay the course with Tasigna as I am doing well on it - my bmb last week showed less than 3% leukemia cells in my marrow. My only options for transplant are a haplo with cells from one of my children or a cord blood...since the stats for either are not what they would be with a perfect match donor...the local Onc. feels we have time to ride it out and if need be proceed with the haplo if my log reduction begins to slip. They will be keeping close eye on me with bmb's every 3 months and pcr tests in between...I will also have a cbc done every 2 weeks. I have been down a rocky road from diagnosis to now...but I am feeling good about this plan...I didn't want to go the transplant route from the beginning - it still may be in my future, but for now I am happy and doing well on the drugs. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl: Glad your doing good, and hopefully you will not have to go the BMT Route as you say. I had no sibling match when they were testing me, and they did find some unrelated donor matches at the time. I chose not to take the chance with a unrelated donor, and my doctor advised against it for me also. That was back in 1999, therefore, just see how the drugs do for you. Hopefully you will do good with the right drug.
