Guest guest
Dear Carl, I see you have been doing some research, but a little different from what we usually see in our rear view mirrors. Your article brings another perspective to our purview. Even with all of this knowledge, we are held captive by these pharmaceutical partners. Since ours is a capitalistic system, we can't expect to have laws put a cap on these drugs. In a free market system, they are allowed to charge whatever the traffic will bear. It would be up to the insurance plans that we have to bargain with them. The VA does it, but the US laws currently prevent the insurance companies from doing the same as VA to lower the costs of drugs, so we are at their mercy. That is why a lot of people turn to Canada for their drugs. We are subsidizing the costs that other countries pay, as their countries tell the drug companies what they will pay. We say " pretty please " . Take away the free market system as we know it and this is what happens. About 12 years ago, France was the top producer and innovator of the drug market. The government stepped in and said they would regulate the costs to the government (they have " free " medical care, but is it really free?). Since this moratorium was imposed on the drug companies, they have fallen to 11th place in the production of new drugs. They have excellent scientists, they always have been leaders in the field, but they lost their incentive to discover and manufacture. Do you not think the same would happen here? What drugs in our medicine cabinets were discovered and made in other countries that you know of? It doesn't mean other countries can't it just means the incentive does not justify it from a monetary standpoint. Until they find a solution, we will not have the option to " shop around " , and we will continue to pay through the wazoo. LOL If it is free, then the producers who pay taxes will have it forcibly removed from their wazoos. Continue to keep a sharp eye out for these provocativve articles. Only if we live in a vacuum are we not informed. That is what we aren't. Carpe diem, Lottie Duthu
