Guest guest
Pooh, Neurontin does not have 'toxic' side effects that directly affect our nerves, like the other meds on the list, but Neurontin can have some wierd effects of it's own. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/gabapent_ad.htm Neurontin made my tremors surge - after about 6 - 7 months on it at 900 mgs a day. So the last 1/2 of that year I took 600 mgs of it each day. It did quell the wierd electrical type sparks shooting up my arm while at rest, and that hasn't come back (all that was about 6 or 7 years ago I think, maybe longer) ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
I took Neurontin/Gabapentin for about 2 years and it helped my neuropathic pain quite a bit. I started out on a lower dose, but eventually was taking 2400 mg/day. As far as side effects...the only thing that I remember was, in the beginning, my head was really " fuzzy " . As my body got used to it, that seemed to go away a bit. I had a very bad experience coming off of Neurontin about 9 months ago when I found out that I was pregnant. This led to panic attacks and about a week in the hospital. Note: I have no history of panic/anxiety issues. I have done a ton of research on the drug and found out that although they do not know exactly the mechanism by which it works, it seems to increase your GABA levels in your brain. GABA is a neurotransmitter and is what gives you a sense of " calm " . One of you mentioned that you were in a better mood since taking Neurontin...I suppose the calming effect might put you in a better mood:) If I had it to do over again, I would have weaned myself off and not stopped it cold turkey. My neuro was freaking out that I was pregnant, so that is why he wanted me to get off the drug immediately. Amy Hodge
Guest guest
Hi Matt, I don't know what type I have. I am thinking about getting a second opinion. The neurologist told me I could get the DNA test but that my insurance wouldn't pay for it and since I just got laid off two weeks ago, I can't pay for the test. My doctor didn't really give me much information on this disease. He just told me I have it and that's there no cure and nothing to slow the progress down. I have been taking Neurontin since April when my primary put me on it and I weened myself off of it and this neurologist told me to go back on it and wants me to go up to 2700 mg. I got up to 1800 mg and I can't stand the way I feel. It makes me feel dopey and I'm tired all the time. And it doesn't help with the pain anyway. Guest guest
When Neurontin first came out, I tried it for some 'electric sparks type pain' at 900mg a day. It worked to stop the pain, at about 6-7 months, I noticed the N was causing a tremor surge, so dropped it back to 600mg a day. Was still drinking coffee then, not the best to mix with. After 1 year on N, stopped taking it, the pain was gone, and hasn't returned. Tremor surge stopped when I stopped the N. Gretchen
Guest guest
Neurotin can be taken with LDN...I know quite a few people taking Neurotin and Baclofen together and on LDN with no problems. I don't see how they can take either Neurontin or Baclofen because Baclofen made me so I couldn't get out of bed and Neurontin gave me bad tremors. I cannot take neurontin i had a bad reaction and ended up in the er.. I was give this for my chronic regional pain syndrome. It is used to neuropothy as well as crps. Guest guest
Yes, I can get a little dizzy, but the pain management is way more important. I have learned to deal with it. Once in a while, I just have a cup of coffee. Never had Lyrica. As for balance, I fell a lot with Neurontin and much less now. Have you considered using a cane? It would help stabilize you. I had aqua therapy Tuesday night for the first time. I was hurting a bit while doing this and asked the therapist about this. The next morning I woke up and felt wonderful! No pain! Pain didn't start until after I did a couple of errands around town and was headed in to work. But even then it wasn't bad. That was Wednesday morning. Thursday morning and this morning I've woken up basically screaming and crying with pain from head to foot. I feel like it is hard to move and every muscle hurts. An hour after I take my morning meds I'm usually okay but still feeling achy and like I really can't do anything any more. Is this from the aqua therapy I had 3 days ago? Is it from my meds I'm taking for pain? Right now I'm up to 1200 mg neurontin, 4 percocets and 200 mg provigil (I know this doesn't have anything to do with pain but it seems to help the pain settle down). In addition, I know I am depressed and I take 60 mg of cymbalta for that. Is this just a reaction that I'm having because both DH and DS are not home? I'm used to DH not being home but this is the first time DS (16 yo) been away when he's not with his relatives. I'm confused. I don't know what to do. I feel like I have to back out of all my commitments and I just can't do anything any more. Suggestions? I'm desparate. Guest guest
, I used to take it (Neurontin) for a few years, but stopped because I couldn't tell if it was helping me or not. My Therapist prescribed it, not my Dr. (NP). Originally my Neurologist prescribed it after I had a stroke in 1997. T.**************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Guest guest
I take 300 mg of Gabapentin 5-6 times a day I take one in Am 30 Min after I take my thyroid medication 1 to 2 in afternoon depending on my pain level 1 to 2 at night also depending on my pain level. Then if I am really aching or in a bid bag ugly flare where you hurt from your eyelashes down to your toenails where it even hurts to sit down. I can take one to two extra. Myself is prior medical and I know my body so well I can tell when something is up so my Dr. told me I could do this. Yes it helps me. Guest guest
--- In dominie , " heidi " <heidilhlokey@...> wrot I took Gabapentin for 5 years. It was a huge help with pain and and sleep for me. Then I started having word retrieval and memory issues beyond my Fibro fog. I did some research and found out that this is an issue with Gabapentin. I made the decision with my doctor to wean myself off. Which was long and very painful. I miss the Gabapentin, the pain has been off the charts ever since. The word retrieval did get gradually better though. I am not willing to mess with my head and I am working on other options for pain. However if it does not have that effect on others I think it works really really well.
