I am relatively new to the field. I have been a RD for about 1 year. I am looking for some information/advice. Someone recently submitted an email about reimbursement. I was wondering if they or anyone else who has been successful at getting reimbursement, could email me and explain how they went about it. What codes did you use? How to you submit reimbursement? How often does insurance pay? What insurances companies are better than others? What patients do you submit reimbursement for? DM only or CVD? What is your average reimbursement. Thank you so much for your time. If you would rather discuss via phone feel free to call me at 901-448-7188. Whitney
Guest guest
Some insurances just cover dietitian, others do not. We have had some luck having our medical director meet with medical directors or leadership at the major insurances we see and tell them about our program, explain benefits of RD visits and then ask that it be reimbursed, 2-3 have started covering due to this. It takes a lot of work but would be worthwhile for the major providers. If so, what are you doing? We are a new program and are interested in seeing how to bill for the supervised weight loss patients that I see. Thank you! Guest guest
Dear Bobby, You had mentioned that you would be mad if you made a trip like I did and had to put out that kind of money. Well I just talked to the Patient Advocate and explained what happened and she is going to take it up with the medical team, the doctor and nurses who contacted me and see if I can be reimbursed. This is an unusual request, as she explained, so it will take as much as 90 days to resolve it and cut a check and it may not be for the whole amount. Other than that, they do not have resources to help patients financially. In 11 years, I think they made enough off me to at least repay a token of what was taken in by them. Sometimes life just sucks, but we suck it all in and move on, rather than dwell on it. What is the news about when Ariad will be available for the second phase? I am still on vacation from CML drugs. I hope I can hold on long enough not to have to take Hydrea. Did you drain your pool for the year? You should have had good use for it this year, last year you said it was cold all summer. It is still in the upper 80's and lower 90's here. Take care, Lottie
