Guest guest
Thank you Lottie for all your knowledgable information you share with this group! I have found that swedish massage once a week does help with the pain and my close friend is a chiropractor and doesn't even charge me co-pay which helps a lot. The massage is covered by my insurance, but it's a 40 minute drive from my home, and sometimes I'm just not feeling up to the drive with the side effects. It does help if anyone is interested in massage. The chiro care doesn't really work that well for me. Love, Peggy Becker Connected by MOTOBLURâ„¢ on T-Mobile [ ] Complementary & Alternative Medicine Has anyone tried complementary or alternaive medicine? I'm going to fess up and tell you that I did try it, because a friend of mine sent me all kinds of literature that looked good and followed up by giving me the name of an Indian doctor who worked at the U of Washington. He was an .D. in India, but did not have a license to practice medicine here, but taught other subjects and did research. He has now moved to another hospital on the east coast, but I only remember his last name as Singh. He called me the next morning at 7:00 a.m and told me exactly where to buy the purest (the name of the company was Pure) and best as far as he was concerned. I don't even remember the name of it now. I think it came from China (used for centuries) and was made of some kind of straw, but that was a long time ago, so I don't recall all the details. Here are some references: " Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the term for medical products and practices that are not part of standard medical care. " Complementary medicine " refers to treatments that are used with standard treatment. " Alternative medicine " refers to treatments that are used instead of standard treatment. " http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/treatment/cam " Alternative medicine means treatments that you use instead of standard ones. Complementary medicine means nonstandard treatments that you use along with standard ones. Examples of CAM therapies are acupuncture, chiropractic, and herbal medicines. CAM treatments do not work for everyone
Guest guest
Hahaha. I meant faking being " into it " /acting like you actually desire it. Body says yes, brain says " I'd rather be sleeping " and " don't press on my stomach to hard or I might spew " . Obviously at some point I am no longer acting. I'm going to get a medical marijuana card on Monday and give that a try, if that counts. I'll let you know if it helps dealing with side effects. Enough people sent me their experiences to get me interested, and interestingly myeloid leukemia is listed as an officially valid condition, so what the heck. Who would've thought that I'd make it through high school and college without trying it, only to start in my 30s? Guest guest
Here's my take on the subject. Any woman who has had children, knows fatigue at it's best. Having had 6 children in 9 years, I well remember the fatigue, and never ever getting a full night's sleep. And I also remember too well thinking, Oh please, not tonight, I am too damned tired!! God made us so different, what is very important to some men, is not all that important to some women, and I think that is because in raising our children we give them all of our time, energy and love, and unfortunately that does not leave a lot left over for dad. I think it makes a huge difference, who has the cml, mom or dad? If anything, this dire situation and this on going fight for life should bring two people closer together , and make them realize life itself is so precious, that lovemaking may be the frosting on the cake, but cake is pretty good without it. That's my two cents worth , Bobby a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years 02/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich. 01/2009 PCR 5.69 04/2009 Ariad Trial AP24534 09/2009 PCR 0.01 11/2009 PCR 0.034 02/2010 PCRU #840 Zavie's Zero Club From: Neal <nwatson@...> Subject: RE: [ ] Complementary & Alternative Medicine Date: Wednesday, September 29, 2010, 3:06 PM  Hahaha. Guest guest
Green Tea, Green Tea, Green Tea and lots of it. I can't praise green tea enough! It allowed my baby to be born at home at 41 weeks of gestation instead of being cut out of me via C-section at 30 weeks. I truly can't praise it enough. I also tried: bio-curcumin (that proved to oppose EGCG in green tea but works on deeper level though wasn't strong enough or bio available enough to fight cml effectively in my case), shitake and maitake mushroom containing polysaccharides (to improve immunity), bio-bran containing arabinoxal complex (enhancement of natural killer cells activity in blood), galangal containing ACA (my WBC count was slowly coming down when I was eating grated galangal root in a sandwich 3 times a day but it was quite impossible to continue taking it in a raw form, it's stronger than ginger, something like ginger enhanced by garlic...) barbery root bark containing berbamine (can't say if this was effective at all) hops tea containing xanthohumol (tried it just in case it did something) red wine containing resveratrol All that allowed me to stay off glivec for 5 months after giving birth to Matilda so I could breastfeed her without putting her health at risk. By then I managed to get her on some bottle milk feeds during the day and start her on solids. She's still having breastfeeds at night despite me being on glivec but I'm slowly fading them away though with a broken heart. All of my other children were breastfed 2 years plus. I don't think that complimentary, alternative medication and diet should be ignored in treating, managing and curing any disease. Also state of mind, emotional health, amount and type of stress takes part in overall health picture and that's never taken into account when pharmacological medication is applied. Patient's life forms background for any illness developed in that patient yet nobody asks a single question about it. I strongly believe we all have ability to cure ourselves when we acquire an illness. For me there is no premature death from any type of acquired disease, only a desire to die prematurely and a disease comes along to do it for us.
