Guest guest
My blood counts were good today - WBC (3.9) not escalating and I did check with my Consultant today about being off Glivec. He said until we have the results I should stay off the med. I will only be going to the HH once their lab have got the results (there was something wrong with the second batch and they have had to do them again!) My Consultant meanwhile speaks to the HH. Silly question from a beginner!... can you explain what is tested for in a) blood (which i know) b)bone marrow and c) cytogenic pcr? I am confused! Thanks for your help - eternally grateful! I hope they are able to figure out the best plan for you, they are a top notch cml center. > > First, do you know for sure that they want you still off meds? sometimes this is worth checking, because there can be some mis-communication, so I would just varify this with them. > > I have been off meds for periods of time....and I think it depends on how active your cml cells are. When I was off meds, usually for 2 weeks at a time (because of pleural effusion of Sprycel), my pcr did go up......for other people it can be a much slower increase. Dr. Druker was not real concerned (but he always checked for mutations when I had an increase) because he knew that when I was back on a TKI the pcr would go back down again. > > I hope you will get all your questions answered soon. > > C. >
