Guest guest
Melinda, Is there a chance you and new friends can go " out " with you picking them up to go out to eat, movie, park, mall...? When warm weather returns, perhaps you all can visit on days where you can suggest you all be outside ( " it's soooo nice out! " ). Another thought if your DD doesn't mind people knowing she has OCD: a " white lie " where you can say her OCD has a " thing " about other people's homes, she gets anxious about possible germs and it's best the kids/all meet at your home, you'd be glad to pick them up? (of course if she goes to others' homes, then that won't work) The thing is, they know their home isn't the " cleanest " so excuses would have to relate to " all " new friends without offending them, making them feel bad. My mom, whom we live with, is/was an awful hoarder so I'm not one to invite people over here and tend to go " there " or meet elsewhere. Just some quick thoughts, > > Just curious what you would do. We went to meet some new friends today, > they are very nice people but their home is extremely dirty and not > just " OCD dirty " , I mean filthy. They were so happy to meet us and us > them as we are new to our town and homeschoolers and finally met some > folks we like but..... my 11yo OCD dd will not return to their home and
Guest guest
Hi Melinda: Just a question -- any reason why you could not invite for an activity and pick them up? It seems that if they do not have a car, they might appreciate this. You can then suggest going over to your place for lunch, or whatever, for a while. And another question -- why was the school system such a nightmare? This is a serious question, as my son hates public school and I cannot do better for him right now financially. I am a single mom and have trouble with managing homeschooling on top of all my other responsiblities. My son does not do the work I request of him, so it is hard for me to " just do it at night " as some have suggested. It seems to add a huge layer of tension to our lives. At present he is on " homebound instruction -- which means the school sends a teacher for a couple hours a day to our home. He is doing the work for her and likes her a lot, but this will not last forever and I am worrying about what to do next. What about the public school system made it such a nightmare for your ocd daughter? (of course, I have lots of complaints about the schools here, I just think that at present they can do a better job than I can due to time constraints and my son's lack of respect for my authority over him) > > > > Just curious what you would do.
